You are required to gain written feedback from a service user / patient / carer during each year of your nursing programme. Your mentor will advise you and make the relevant recommendations.

MENTOR GUIDANCE

Student nurses are required during placement to gain written feedback from a patient/ service user / carer under the following specific categories. The placement mentor will need to select and recommend an appropriate patient / service user / carer who would able and willing to participate in providing the student with constructive written feedback under each of the categories below.

  • Appropriate communication skills
  • Provision of caring and compassionate nursing care
  • Demonstration of dignity and respect at all times
  • Involvement of patient / service user / carer / advocate in decisions of care
  • Provision of information about care

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Year One – at least one placement Year Two – at least two placements Year Three – two placements, one of which is the final sign-off placement.

NB: The term ‘carer’ includes a relative of a patient, parent of a child patient and also a significant individual who may be a patient advocate.
