CONSTITUTION OF THE TEXAS GYMNASTICS CLUB
THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN
2013-CURRENT
ARTICLE I: NAME
The name of this organization shall be Texas Gymnastics (TG).
ARTICLE II: MISSION STATEMENT
- The purpose of Texas Gymnastics is to promote the sport of gymnastics, both within the UT community and throughout the state of Texas.
B. The objectives of the TG organization are:
i. To provide and promote gymnastics competition for the UT community
ii. To introduce and provide instruction of gymnastics to the members of the UT community
ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP
- Membership in TG shall be open to members of the UT community; specifically UT students, faculty, and staff. Membership opportunity shall not be denied to any person regardless of race, national origin, creed or political affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, handicap, or veteran’s status.
B. In order to be recognized as a full member of TG a person must:
i. Complete and sign a Release form from the current workout facility
ii. Pay club dues by set deadlines (non-refundable)
iii. Follow all rules and regulations set forth by the UTSCA and the Division of Recreational Sports.
C. Full members have the following rights and privileges:
i. To attend all regularly scheduled club activities (such as practices and team meetings)
ii. To travel with the club to attend events (such as competitions, club social events, etc.)
ARTICLE IV: MEETINGS
- Regular club practices shall be held Monday through Thursday nights, from 7:30 to 10:00pm, during Fall and Spring semesters at Star Center Gymnastics.
- Changes in the club’s practice schedule may be made by the Division of Recreational Sports or by the TG Executive Council (officers).
- Special meetings may be called by the TG Executive Council.
ARTICLE V: EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
- The Executive Council shall prescribe all club business for the academic year.
- The officers which comprise the Executive Council are the Women’s Team President and Captain, the Men’s Team President and Captain, the Treasurer, and the Travel Coordinator.
C. The roles of the officer’s are:
i. The separate President’s and Captain’s shall perform the same duties for their respective part of the team. In matter’s concerning the entire team, they shall share duties.
ii. The Presidents shall lead the Executive Council by supervising all club functions and presiding over all Executive Council meetings. They shall serve as the liaisons to the Division of Recreational Sports. The Presidents shall organize and coordinate the Executive Council to best serve the club.
iii. The Captains shall supervise the club’s regular practices and assist the President.
iv. The Treasurer shall be responsible for managing all club funds.
v. The Travel Coordinator shall be responsible for planning all things necessary for travel to competitions, (such as plane tickets, hotel reservations, gas cards, etc.)
D. All club officers have the following duties:
i. Attend all UTSCA Representative’s meetings or send another club member in his/her place.
ii. Inform club members of policies, procedures, expectations, emergency procedures, and other regulations.
iii. Monitor all club events, assuring that all policies and procedures are being followed.
iv. Submit all required forms completed and on time.
ARTICLE VI: ELECTIONS
- Only members may vote during elections
- Elections for all officers will be held at the end of the academic year around Nationals.
- Nominations will be taken from any member.
ARTICLE VII: FUNDS
A. Funds shall be provided by:
i. UTSCA budget allotments (allocations account)
ii. Club dues, as decided by the Executive Council at the beginning of the semester
iii. Any fundraisers approved by the Executive Council and the Sport Club Office
ARTICLE VIII: AFFILIATIONS
TG shall be affiliated with the UTSCA, the Division of Recreational Sports, the Texas Gymnastics Conference, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs and shall abide by the rules prescribed by these agencies.
ARTICLE IX: RATIFICATION
The Constitution must be approved by the Executive Council.
ARTICLE X: AMENDMENTS
Any amendments to the TG Constitution must be ratified by the Executive Council but may be presented by any club member.

Bylaws of Texas Gymnastics
EFFECTIVE FALL 2013
Bylaw I. Membership:
Section 1. Membership
i. Membership is defined in the Texas Gymnastics Constitution.
Section 2. Payment deadlines and penalties
i. If a member does not make a payment (or installment) by a deadline approved by the treasurer, then he or she will not be allowed to work out until the full debt is paid.
ii. If a member has an outstanding balance from the previous semester, then they cannot practice in the next semester until the entire previous balance has been paid.
iii. At the beginning of the fall semester, membership for anyone who was not elected an officer in the previous school year will be determined by the team captains through a try out process. The try out process consists of one (1) month of practice at a cost of $50. If he or she makes the team, he or she will owe the remaining $250 out of the total $300 in dues. If he or she does not make the team, no money will be owed to either Texas Gymnastics or to the prospective member (no refund). If the prospective member ceases the tryout process before starting his or her second week of trying out, the $50 tryout fee will be waived.
iv. A person may not suspend his or her membership in the middle of a semester unless in the case of exigent circumstances. Ultimately, it is up to the officers’ discretion whether or not to allow the suspension.
Section 3. Communication
i. Email is the official form of communication between the Executive Council and its members. Each member should make efforts to check his or her email on a regular basis to stay current with the club. Members are responsible for the information provided by email.
Bylaw II. Travel and Competitions:
Section 1. Competition prerequisites:
i. Competitors must not be late in the payment of club dues to qualify for competition (meaning you have to be up to date on your payment plan).
ii. Competitors must demonstrate to their captain the ability to safely perform a routine within two weeks prior to a competition.
iii. Fundraising
a. Fundraising will be in the form of a point-reward system that directly affects ALL competition subsidization to encourage and promote participation. Choosing not to participate in fundraising at all will result in that member assuming all financial responsibility in attending the National competition. The more a member participates, the greater amount of money Texas Gymnastics will contribute to his or her competition expenses. There is no limit to the amount of points a member can earn.
b. Earning points will be broken up as follows:
1. Flips for Tips (FFT) fundraisers allow a maximum of 6 points.
§ 2 points for being present 50% of the time
§ 2 points for being present 100% of the time, +/- 20 minutes
§ 2 points for engaging crowds by either talking or flipping throughout your time at the fundraiser
2. Playbook Vendors Participation guarantees 6 points only after:
§ signing up
§ showing up 2:45 hours before game time
§ staying until every playbook has been distributed (normally just before kickoff)
§ Note: Signing up for a spot and failing to show up without a replacement will result in an automatic loss of 6 points
3. Selling t-shirts at meets allows a maximum of 4 points
§ 1 point for set up
§ 1 point for selling for the first half of the sessions
§ 1 point for selling for the second half of the sessions
§ 1 point for tear down
4. Profit shares will allow a maximum of 2 points
§ 1 point for contributing (must sign-in at time of purchase)
§ 1 point for a contributing friend (must sign-in at time of purchase)
5. Other fundraising ideas may be submitted and its value will be determined by the current officers
iv. Competition at a home meet requires that a member assist in setting up the gym in preparation for the meet and tear down equipment after the meet.
v. A maximum of 8 competitors will be allowed per event as determined by the team captains.
vi. Competitors shall assist the host(s) of a competition in tearing down equipment.
vii. To qualify for the national competition, team members must attend at least one competition plus the TGC state championship competition.
viii. Each member is required to submit a provided form of 3 business or individuals (name, address/email) that TG will contact for a donation.
Section 2. Travel requirements
i. All traveling team members are required to turn in their health insurance. If a member fails to do so, then he or she must pay $5 per day of travel to cover the cost and time of buying insurance for him or her. The executive council can overrule this on a case-by-case basis (e.g. a member does not have health insurance).
ii. Team drivers agree and understand that they are responsible for the safety and transportation of the people in their car. This includes:
a. Ensuring that their riders are not left behind
b. Knowing the location (driver) of riders they brought to an event if the riders switch to another driver on the way back.
iii. Any additional expense incurred as the result of a team member deciding late on whether to travel to a meet will be paid for by that member. This includes, but is not limited to late registration fees, and the increase in prices due to getting a flight later or travel later.
Section 3. Fuel & Fuel compensation
i. Drivers will only be compensated for gasoline used while traveling by vehicle to and from events that are located more than three hundred (300) miles away from UT Austin.
ii. Drivers must show that they are starting with a full tank before travelling if they wish to have their fuel paid for and may only fill up with the UT Travel Card. Using any payment method other than the designated UT Travel Card, except in emergency, will not result in fuel reimbursement.
iii. Drivers must give all gas receipts to the treasurer or travel coordinator. Failure to do so will result in a $150 fee that will be charged to the club by RecSports.
iv. Upon return from a meet, drivers will fill their tank back up to full (where they started from) with the gas card
Bylaw III. Practice Requirements
Section 1. Practice facility agreements
i. All members are required to clean up Star Center Gymnastics after each day of practice according to the supervising coach’s requests.
ii. All members must assist Star Center in preparing and setting up and/or tearing down their gym or other gyms they use for their home competitions when necessary.
Bylaw IV: Presidents/Officers Authority
Section 1. Officers have the authority to make exceptions to the club rules in special circumstances.
Bylaw V: Voting Procedure
Section 1. Eligibility
i. Members who have paid their debts to the team are eligible to participate in the selection of the officers for the following year regardless of class (e.g. senior).
Section 2. Nomination
i. The nomination of officers shall be done prior to nationals. Individuals can nominate themselves or someone else.
ii. Nominees shall accept or decline their nomination prior to voting.
Section 3. Voting
i. Voting shall be performed anonymously. (Members will have a ballot provided by the officers to vote for a position.)
ii. Voting time and date is TBD by the current officers
a. Absentee votes will be accepted if not able to attend election
iii. Members may abstain from voting.
Section 4. Tiebreaker
i. In the event of a tie, the current club officers shall decide the winner of a tiebreaker. If an officer running for re-election is tied, then they shall abstain from the tiebreaker.
ii. If the officers’ tiebreaker is tied then they shall discuss the matter until a consensus is reached.
Bylaw VI: Vacated Office
i. In the event of a vacated officer position, the remaining officers will hold an officer meeting to fill the position, if it is deemed by the officers that the position needs to be filled.
Bylaw VII: Removal of officers
i. The removal of an officer shall be performed by a unanimous vote of the remaining officers.
Bylaw VIII: Officer Transition
i. Newly elected officers must attend the NAIGC national annual meeting the morning before finals.
ii. The final duties of an officer shall be to train the new officers in running the club.
iii. The officer transition shall take place at the official end of the spring semester, or after the annual team camping trip, whichever comes last.
Bylaw VIII: Changes in team warm ups and competition uniforms
Section 1. Apparel changing procedure
i. The officers of the club make the final determination of whether or not a change is necessary based upon team members’ considerations and budget constraints.
Section 2. Choosing new uniforms
i. Changes in team competition uniforms shall be voted upon by a majority of that team. In the event that no majority is present the officers will decide how to proceed.
ii. Changes in team warm ups shall be decided by a consensus of the officers, with team members’ input.
Section 3. Mandatory apparel switch
i. Each team (Men & Women) changes apparel uniforms as a team. Members are not allowed to wear uniforms from previous years to compete for Texas Gymnastics.
