SUBJECT: JAN HOLLOWAY EXCELLENCE IN CLINICAL INSTRUCTION AWARD

The Awards Committee invites you to honor a colleague by nominating him or her for the Jan Holloway Excellence in Clinical Instruction Award. This award is presented in the spring of odd-numbered years. The recipient will be recognized at WSU Commencement; a plaque, honorarium and the nomination forms will be presented following commencement activities.

Purpose: The purpose of the donor in establishing this Excellence in Clinical Instruction Award is to recognize excellence in clinical instruction in the undergraduate program.

Eligibility:Any faculty member of the College of Nursing, who has completed at least three semesters of undergraduate clinical teaching, and has been employed more than half-time during the award year, may be nominated by a current faculty or student with required support letters.

Criteria for Selection:The person selected will have demonstrated outstanding teaching in any area

of the undergraduate curriculum, based on these criteria:

1.Models caring behavior during interactions with clients and students.

2.Stimulates effective clinical decision making and critical thinking.

3.Uses a wide range of teaching methods effectively and incorporates creativity in teaching style.

4.Demonstrates highest professional values, and encourages professional and personal development in students.

5. Facilitates open communication and constructive problem-solving approaches in student-

teacher interactions.
