Job Title: Legal & Affiliated Services Regional Coordinator

Reports to:(Primary) Regional Secretary

(Functional) Director - Legal and Affiliated Services.

Communication with:Admin staff who deal with legal and ancillary benefits; Officers in the region; Branch Secretaries in the region; Solicitors in the region; all Members in the region; ancillary service provides in the region.

Job Band :Band 7

Main Purpose of Job:To ensure that centrally determined processes for the promotion, development and maintenance of all Legal & Affiliated Services are applied within the Region

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as an effective liaison between members, officers of the Union and Union solicitors in their Region on behalf of the Regional Secretary
  • Act as the Regional point of contact for all Affiliated Service providers and ensure that the Affiliated Service providers have access to the branches within the Region to promote their services.
  • Ensure that the appropriate system for referring legal cases to panel solicitors is being used
  • Monitor legal cases where appropriate and act as an access point for members, officers and panel solicitors. It is important that The Regional Co-ordinator reports cases that are of significant importance to the Regional secretary and central Legal department.
  • Monitor and advise staff within the Region who are assigned to administer legal and affiliated benefits and services, in liaison with the Regional Secretary.
  • Ensure that the administrative duties employed to deliver legal and ancillary services are consistent and effective so as to deliver uniform standards of service delivery and be in compliance with Unite policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the Regional Secretary and the Director for Legal and Affiliated Services receives a Quarterly Report and update providing details of all relevant Legal Services results and activities likely to be of interest and information to the Regional Committee.
  • Work in association with the Union’s Solicitors and the Union’s Education Services to assist in the education and training of Branch Secretaries, Shop Stewards and Officers in respect of Legal and Affiliated Services and Benefits.
  • Work in Association with the Union’s Solicitors to ensure that appropriate legal cases are advertised with the Region to promote legal services
  • Work in association with the Union’s Solicitors to ensure regular support for local campaigns and attendance at branch meetings.
  • Work in association with the Central Legal Department and Regional Secretary to undertake an ongoing review and monitoring of work practices with a view to amending administrative practices as necessary to ensure that the best and most cost effective and efficient practices are adopted throughout the Union at all times.
  • Work with the Region and Central Office to ensure the maximisation of referrals from the Region to the Regional Solicitors.
  • Work with the Region and Central Office to ensure the introduction of new legal services and affiliated products from time to time.
  • Act as a point of contact for members on legal and affiliated matters from time to time.
  • Be open to and promote change within the region to continuously improve the regional organisation’s service to members, its efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to projects as part of the Union’s continuous improvement processes.
  • Support change in the region to meet the Union’s overall objectives and principles.
  • Carry out such other duties as may from time to time be specified.
