Members reappointed to NHS Highland

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing today announce the reappointment of two members to NHS Highland.

Highland NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Highland region.

Sarah Wedgewood–joined NHS Highland having been a full time career for a relative after a career in the health service spanning nearly 20 years. Sarah’s roles have included operational management within acute services in Edinburgh, running a health council in Lanarkshire and being a former director with the precursor to HIS i.e. the Clinical Standards Board for Scotland and the Care Commission. Sarah is also a Trustee of Penumbra, a mental health voluntary organisation.

Mike Evans–qualified as a chartered accountant in 1990, he then spent 12 years as Finance Director to a variety of small and medium businesses including a multinational electronics business and a pan European label printer. In 2003 Mike acquired his own chartered accounts practice in Dingwall providing clients with business advisory services throughout Scotland and beyond but primarily Highland businesses. From 2005-2013 Mike also served as a non-executive director with the Cromarty Firth Port Authority.

Thereappointments will be for four years and will run from August 1, 2014 to July 31, 2018.

Thesereappointments are part-time and attracts a remuneration of £8,008 for a time commitment of eight hours per week.

Sarah Wedgewood is a non-executive trustee of Penumbra with a time commitment of two days per month, and a trustee of Shieldaig Community Association with a time commitment of one day per month. These appointments are not remunerated.

Mike Evans is a non-executive director of ILM Highland with a time commitment of half a day per month and no remuneration.

Thesereappointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. The Members have not hadany political activity in the last five years.
