Members of Chana Leah BBG,

As the fall term is coming to an end, it is time for the members of Chana Leah BBYO to elect a new spring board. This next term, Chana Leah is splitting into Chana Leah BBG and Ruach AZA. This is a tremendous opportunity for all BBGs to step up and run for board. Remember, board positions require conducting yourself as a role model for the chapter and the region. It is a great opportunity to be the change you want to see in the chapter. With that being said, holding a board position is a huge time commitment; it is imperative to attend chapter and regional events. It is also highly important to attend all meetings and to work hard at your position as well as working together with other board members. Also, keep in mind that BBYO has a very strict, “no politicking” policy. This means you may not advertise your candidacy or let others advertise it for you. You may not tell anyone what you are running for except me and our advisors. If you would like to talk to the person who holds the position you are considering running for, you may do so, as long as you don’t tell them you ARE running for that position.

Please approach elections with a positive attitude and all of your confidence. Please, please, please do not be discouraged if you don’t get the board position you hoped for. Do not quit Chana Leah or BBYO as a whole, for it will be a learning experience, and you will not find anything like it for the rest of your life. There are plenty of other opportunities to get involved and be a leader on the chapter and regional levels.

It is important, even if you decide not to run for a position, to attend elections. This is your opportunity to elect the new leaders of Chana Leah, who represent your ideas and goals for this chapter. However, do not just vote for your friends, enter elections with an open mind to all candidates.

Checklist:What to do if you have decided to run.

Talk to your parents about running and get their approval.

Think seriously about the commitment you are about to make. Being on board will consume a good bit of your time (especially on weekends for events and conventions) so if you do have other extracurricular activities, make sure you can devote enough time to serve effectively!

Parents

I have read this packet and reviewed the responsibilities that she would take on if she were to be elected. I understand the great responsibility and time commitment that is expected of my son or daughter and will support whenever need be. I am also aware of the consequences my son or daughter will face if she fails to perform and/or remain committed to her duties. Furthermore, your signature reflects that you have an understanding about the clear separation between punishment at home and in the chapter.

Disciplinary actions taken at home should not overshadow BBYO functions

By obtaining a leadership position, your child is expected to be a good-standing member and a prominent leader at all chapter events and meetings. Collaboration between you and your child is the best way to have success. Thank you for being open minded and supporting your child as they make strides to become a leader among many others.
