Includes a provisional sum of $516K for maintenance and minor upgrade works to areas of open space.

Includes a provisional sum of $120,000 for maintenance and minor improvement works at the high profile sites.
3 / Open Space – tree maintenance (CityWide) / $577,000 / Includes a provisional sum of $65,000 forstump grinding, rural roadside pruning/removals and emergency works.

Undertaking detailed design for future streetscape improvements, including the Courthouse Plaza in Melton.

In addition Council undertakes a capital works program, some of which could be categorised as beautification works. In the last 2 years Council has undertaken:

  1. Palmerston Street bus interchange works
  2. Tree planting as part of the Gourlay Road duplication works
  3. Undergrounding of powerlines in McKenzie Street as part of the construction of the new Melton Library
  4. Street tree plantings at various locations including: Yuille Street, Centenary Avenue, High Street, Henry Street and Unitt Street.

In addition to the contracted open space maintenance Council has in place an in-house Open Space Improvement Team. This comprises a team of five (5) who are charged with undertaking targeted landscape improvements in key locations. Recent works including landscaping at: Courthouse Plaza, High Street / Melton Highway, Burnside Heights Recreation Reserve, Springside Recreation Reserve and Alexandra Street. The team have access to Council owned plant to enable them to undertake the landscape improvement works. A long term plan for landscape improvement is being developed to be incorporated into Council’s 5 year works program.
