Clinical Internship Experience

Master of Science in Medical Dosimetry (2012-2014)

12-month internship divided between 2 facilities:

·  Central DuPage Hospital Photon Center where I was trained on Eclipse 10.0 and TomoTherapy treatment planning softwares, Mosaiq, and RadCalc

o  Treatment tactics included IMRT, IGRT, CBCT, MVCT, 4D scanning, RapidArc therapy and TomoTherapy using Varian Trilogy and TomoTherapy machines

o  Observation and assistance with physics on the Brainlab treatment planning system for SRS and SRT, Delta4, BeamChecker Plus and Varian’s VariSource iX Afterloader

o  Creating, developing, and verifying radiation treatment plans in conjunction with the Radiation Oncologist for external beam, SRS, and brachytherapy treatments

o  CT, MRI, PET, PET/CT based plans, with multimodality fusion

o  Electronic and paper documentation to ensure proper treatment delivery

o  Coordination of patient treatment plans within Information Management system

·  ProCure Proton Therapy Center, Chicago where I learned CMS/XiO for proton planning

o  Involvement in both contouring and chart rounds (2/week) allowed intensive learning on proton treatment planning from many perspectives including the Radiation Oncologist, Physicist, and Medical Dosimetrist

o  Attending meetings to address goals of the radiation oncologist, capabilities of the TPS, and physical limitations along with anatomical concerns - a collaboration to develop the best treatment strategy for each and every patient

o  Intense training with Velocity contouring and image fusion software

o  Observation, assistance, and proton treatment planning under the supervision of CMD

o  Research, development, and implementation of pencil beam scanning in 2014

Radiation Therapy

o  University of Alabama at Birmingham Cancer Center

o  Here I was introduced to the Eclipse treatment planning system during my first dosimetry rotation and to both the Varian EX and Varian IX during my two treatment rotations.

o  The Kirklin Clinic at Acton Road

o  I was thoroughly introduced to both Eclipse and TomoTherapy treatment planning systems during one dosimetry rotation and one treatment rotation. During treatment I was trained on both TomoTherapy and a Varian EX.
