UC/CSU Credit: (f) Visual and Performing Arts

This year long course is a beginning study in digital media design and criticism. The class is structured around projects emphasizing the art elements of line, shape, form, color, space and texture. It will introduce students to the principles of design as well as typography, perspective, color theory and layout. Students will develop an appreciation of traditional artistic expression as well as an understanding of the role of contemporary media as a verbal and visual means of communication in today’s society. After introduction to hardware and software common in the industry, students work together to design, create, critique and present digital media art projects.

The course is directly integrated with geometry for an overarching class entitled Spatial Studies. The two subjects are intertwined, exposing students to the vast array of correlations between math and art. Furthermore, cross-curricular connections are made with history, English Language Arts and science. This course will include computer programming and robotics.

ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY (AUP):

The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for this course focus extensively on the use of computers and the Internet in the classroom. Students will be required to use various forms of information exchangeincluding email, electronic bulletin boards, and instant messaging. For that reason, students and parents will be required to read, agree to, sign, and return the MISDStudent Technology Acceptable Use Policy.

Every student has access to a computer in the CTE classroom, which is a blessing and a curse. Itis a difficult task to keep students from playing games, watching videos, surfing their personal interests, etc. Simply, some students do not complete their assignments in a timely matter because they choose to “play” instead of work. It is a distraction andimpedeslearning for all

.

Severe consequences are in place for students who choose to violate the Acceptable Use Policy. If your student has a phone, I will ask them to text or call you to let you know they have violated the MISD AUPandI will follow-up with an email.

The consequences are:

  • Strike 1 –the parent/guardian is contacted by the student and verified by the teacher. (email)
  • Strike 2 –afternoon detention on the next calendar Tuesday from 2:45 –4:00.
  • Strike 3 –classroom computer privileges restricted for five days and mandatory parent conference. The student will have to complete assignments without the benefit of technology.
  • Strike 4 –Principal referral.

Your intervention to solve this prevailing problem so our students can concentrate on learning is appreciated

.

In an increasingly information-oriented world, demands upon students to think on higher levels are steadily increasing. Technology tools help to augment and optimize their ability to process information. Students are provided with technological tools and knowledge needed to synthesize information from across the curriculum efficiently and appropriately.

Technology Education

The technology content standards for Grades 6-8 are designed to complement all areas of the academic curriculum. The integration of technology enhances middle school students' emerging abilities to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information. Students can use productivity/multimedia tools to demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences more effectively. Students can also evaluate the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and bias of electronic information sources concerning real-world problems.

Baldwin Arts& Academic Magnet School Technology Guidelines

Technology instruction at Baldwin follows the above guidelines, which also include those standards dictated by the International Society for Technology in Education (ITSE). Baldwin's courses are designed to provide a firm foundation in computer technology and the use of computers as productivity tools. Students will gain a thorough understanding of computers, computer technology, computer hardware and software, and how computers are used to produce meaningful information.
