The rest of the minutes of the 25-05-04 Sindelfingen meeting were approved.

3.  MATTERS ARISING FROM THESE MINUTES

The agenda of this meeting and the rest of the minutes cover all matters.

Action points: see 11

4.  THE FUTURE OF THE IDDRG

4.1. Organisation Executive Committee

KR is no longer part of the exco. His proposal to have Mr. Walch, who is now member of the Austrian DDRG, as an exco member has not been granted by the exco as Mr. Walch is not known by the IDDRG exco members.

HK will retire from VTT on 1-4-2005 and wants to retire as president of the IDDRG as well, after he was involved with the IDDRG for 30 years, so we need a new president. FJ-L was asked for this function.

For FJ-L it was an honour to be asked, however he has also a job in a big company; the TKS management approval was needed in order to invest time in the job. Unfortunately they did not approve this.

After some debate AC was asked if he would be prepared to take the presidency and after some consideration he has accepted this.

The exco members will have to think about succession; this will be a discussion point for the next exco meeting(s). EJ will retire in 2 years time (sept 2006), HK in april 2005, HH in 4- 5 years and AC and BL have already retired from there jobs.

The present exco is well balanced on regions, except for Southern Europe. Possibilities for new exco members are Dos Santos from Portugal, Wadman or Asnafi from Sweden, Green or Van Thijn from USA/Canada, Tim from Switzerland and Gantar or Kutzman from Slovenia. All exco members will keep an open mind for more candidates and informally check interest from the people mentioned above.

4.2. National groups

The national group secretaries of Norway and Czech republic have changed and India is now a full member.

NL will attach recent data of the national secretaries to the minutes.

On specific countries the following remarks were made:

- Spain: Labein wants to be more active in the IDDRG. RK will link the national secretary of Madrid with Labein.

- Korea: HH will contact Korea again

- S-American representative: no representatives, AC will check Brazilian interest

- China: Planned joint meeting with the JDDRG was cancelled; at this moment there is only mail correspondence. There is a close link between the Chinese society of Automotive engineering with the Japanese one. Dr. Lu is active in sheet metal research. The Chinese probably have to be invited in order to receive permition to visit the IDDRG. NL will therefore invite Dr. Lu for the next IDDRG.

There are contacts between Baosteel and Arcelor: AC will contact Boasteel for interest in the IDDRG.

-  Poland: is not very active MT will visit Krakow and will try to make contacts

-  Russia; might be a member in future

-  Americas; there is an active national group; Daniel Green has changed jobs but will remain in the field

BL and MS are encouraged to think about future NADDRG representatives.

5.  IDDRG 2004 GERMANY

The IDDRG 2005 was a great success: there were high quality papers, many industrial contributions and many participants. It was very well organised by the German group. The German group was also very active in lobbying for participation.

6 IDDRG 2005 France

6.1 General

The brochure of the first announcement for the Conference + exhibition was distributed by JG. The date has been changed to 20-22 June 2005.

JG will ask Gregor Steinbeck for the IDDRG2004 distribution list, so this can be used for the 2005 event. JG has contacts with the relevant Universities, the IDDRG should come up with industrial contacts. At this moment there is a 200 names list.

6.3 Discussion

A total of 31 papers is considered to be OK, there is also enough time for the exhibition.

A technical tour in the afternoon would be better for the programme, however then there is a problem with the closure time of the plants.

It will depend on the number of abstracts if there will be a poster session. It is encouraged, because a number of Universities need at least present a poster for approval for attending a conference.

Long coffee brakes of 35 minutes are encouraged in order to generate time for visiting the poster sessions and having discussions.

The IDDRG exco offers again its service for convenors checking papers and giving speeches. It is also strongly recommend to focus on papers covering experimental subjects.

Sponsorship has already been arranged from the University, ENSMM, Institute of Coating Technology, the Local government and companies as Arcelor, Alcan but more sponsors form industry will be welcomed.

Besançon Congres, a professional organisation that will be the central contact for the attendees, will do the practical organisation

There are 2 hotels in the neighbourhood; the IBIS and Mercure. At each hotel 60 rooms have already been reserved. It was decided that the Exco will book the IBIS; this one is the closest by the conference centre (walking distance).

Ac is looking at the possibility for publication of selected papers after permission of the author in the journal “Steel Grips”.

The Conference book will consist of photocopies of the papers; a CD rom is still a question mark. There is only need for a collection of .pdf files, there is no need for an interactive one.

For the Exhibition there will be contributions from strain measurement systems (TechLab, GOM, VIALUX) and software vendors (ESI, Autoform, Quantech, Simtech, LS-Dyna, Abaqus).

An accompanying persons programme will depend on the attendance and the number of applications through the application form. Maybe this will be arranged throught the local Tourist office; where no tours will be arranged, but information will be given on places of interest.

The Website will be open soon; MT will make the link.

7. IDDRG 2006 Portugal (Porto)

Barata de Rocha and Dos Santoz have accepted to organise the 2006 conference. NL will send a formal letter and also remind them to have promotion material ready at the IDDRG2005.

Dos Santoz will be present at the next IDDRG2005 organising committee meeting in Besançon.

8. IDDRG 2007 Hungary

A number of new congress centres will be build in Hungary in the coming years. A decision on the location will therefore be made next year.

9. WEBSITE (MT)

More information on national groups is needed. The French website should be ready soon and linked to IDDRG website.

Their will be no electronic registration for the IDDRG2005; only by fax or normal mail by a form which can be downloaded in pdf format.

All info on hotels etc. will be available on the website.

All are asked to end interesting links to internet sites on sheet metal R&D to MT

10. FINANCE (AR-E)

HH reported that there were no main issues that need discussion. Next meeting there will be a full report from AR-E.

11. ANY OTHER BUSINESS

11.1 FLC

HH presented the new draft ISO guideline. At this moment there is only opposition from the US. All are asked to check the proposal and give comments especially on chapter 8. The comments have to be send to HH and/or the ad hoc ISO FLC group members. HH has also asked for comments from Edmund Chu during the IBES (= new IBEC).

11.2 Invitation of HK to IDDRG2005

HK will be invited to attend the next IDDRG with his wife, expenses will be paid by the IDDRG and the local organisation. NL, AC and AR-E will discuss this.

11.3 European sheet metal forming consortium

Prof. Chenot wants to initiate a European consortium for sheet metal forming similar to the existing forging consortium. MT will send around information on the forging cluster. This might be funded from the Framework 6 programme. However, according to Arcelor this will be difficult. There might be more possibilities in the RFCS programme for which the tender is mid September 2005.

12. DATE AND VENUE OF THE NEXT MEETING

Next meeting 21- June 2005 in Besançon.

13. VISIT OF THE CONFERNECE FACILITES

The facilities are very good; there are no complaints and it is very suitable for the conference. The only possible worry is the astonishing beautiful view from the conference room, which might distract some people.
