IEEE P802

Media Independent Handover Services

Teleconference Meeting Minutes of the IEEE P802.21 Working Group

802.21 Requirements on 3GPP

Ad Hoc Leader: Ulises Olvera-Hernández

Minutes taken by Ulises Olvera-Hernández

Date: Thursday, September 1st, 2005, 8:00AM-10:00AM EDT

1.  General Considerations

1.1.  Make sure that documents version stated in the cover page and document version shown in the master slide are the same.

1.2.  Titles and color codes should be consistent across the whole document

1.3.  Include an outline slide and a conclusion slide.

1.4.  Reduce the amount of wording within each slide to facilitate reading

1.5.  Avoid contentions statements that might suggest imposition of functionality

2.  Specific Comments on document 21-05-0300-06-0000

2.1.  Slide 3

2.1.1.  Change title from “Why 802.21?” to “Motivation”[Subir Das]

2.1.2.  Add version and chapter where the quotes were taken within the relevant 3GPP standard [Reijo Salminen]

2.2.  Slide 4

2.2.1.  Add the fact that 802.21 allows “smoot iteraction and handovers of 802 technologies to other access technologies.[Stefan Faccin]]

2.2.2.  Remove the first reference to “802” from the first bullet; change the sentence from “…only 802 standard that…” to the only standards that allows…” [Stefano Faccin]

2.2.3.  Added the Media Independent Aspect to the first bullet [Subir Das]

2.3.  Slide 5

2.3.1.  Third bullet is imposing a particular architecture. Request feedback and request that support to decide where 802.21 requirements could be addressed within 3GPP (e.g., new WI or existing WI), but do not make assumptions that 802.21 is already accepted [Stefano Faccin]

2.4.  Slide 6

2.4.1.  Change title from “Some 802.21 Concepts” to “Some 802.21 Definitions”[Matthew Peresse]

2.4.2.  The last two bullets are out of context. The MIH user has local access through the stack within the UE, whereas the MIH Network entity access services through a remote interface. However this does not mean that MIH users are only located at the UE. Fix the context. [Subir Das/Ajay Raykumar]

2.5.  Slide 7

2.5.1.  Replace “quicker” with “low latency”[Reijo Salminen]

2.5.2.  Remove the last sentence from the third bullet. [Matthew Peresse]

2.6.  Slide 9 and 10

2.6.1.  Remove the Wn interface and the specific 3GPP content from the 3GPP bubble as it assumes a particular architecture [Stefano Faccin/Subir Das]

2.6.2.  The figure seems to indicate that the MIHF resides in the 802 access network. This too assumes a particular architecture and it should be revisited. There is a similar issue within on the Client Station side (slide 10) where the MIHF is contained entirely within the 802 interface. This should be revisited as well. [Stefano Faccin/Subir Das] []

2.6.3.  The acronym IS/CS/ES is not defined anywhere within the document. It needs to be defined [Subir Das].

2.6.4.  Figures in slides 8 and 9 need to be reviewed by the group as there are some concepts where the group did not reach consensus.during the teleconference. The suggestion is to do off line work and attempt to resolve this issue over the e-mail reflector [Ulises Ovlera]

2.7.  Slide 11

2.7.1.  Change the forth bullet from “A Media Independent Handover Protocol” to “A protocol for the transport of Media Independent Services” [Stefano Faccin]

2.8.  Slide 13

2.8.1.  Second bullet, the example shows “Cellular –MIP”. Clarify the example [Ajay Raykumar]

2.9.  Slide 14

2.9.1.  .First bullet, second sub-bullet.; reword the stament “chantes in state behaviour” as it might be contentions to the audience.

2.10.  Slide 17

2.10.1.  Remove this slide as the current 802.21 draft does not provide support for IMS services. Furthermore, this slide shows a scenario that can be potentially contention in 3GPP[Stefan Faccin].

3.  Action Items

3.1.  Add a slide that exemplifies a handover scenario between 3GPP-WLAN where the handover control is carried out from a network entity over a higher layer protocol. This seems to be a scenario favored by some network operators. [Stefan Faccin]

3.2.  Update slide according to comments[Ulises Olvera]

3.3.  Work of line and over the 802.21 reflector in order to solve as many issues as possible before the 802.21 September 29005 meeting[].[].

3.4.  Teleconference Adjourned
