Meeting Location Announcement

2nd Annual Internet Relay Chat Conference June 7-8, 2005

The meeting will be held at Naval Space and Warfare Systems Center-San Diego (SSC SD), a premier C4I research, development, test and evaluation facility supporting naval and joint forces for over 66 years. It is located in Pt Loma, near the historic Cabrillo Monument. (Our Headquarters, SSC, is located in the Old Town district).

General Directions from Airport to SSC-SD: Make right turn onto North Harbor Drive when leaving the airport. (Small signs say: to Pt Loma.) Follow until you reach Rosecrans Blvd. (about 2 miles). Make a left onto Rosecrans; you are now heading south). Make a right onto Canon (small signs say: to Cabrillo Monument) which goes uphill. When it dead ends, take left onto Catalina. At second street light, make left onto Electron Drive, with big sign that has SSC-SD on it. First building on right is Pass and ID. There are only 15 parking spaces for visitors. Stagger your arrival times. (If you already have your badge, proceed pass Gate Guard; must have picture ID, along with badge. Travel down Electron Drive until it curves to the right, in front of building 33 (Conference site); there are a few reserved spots to the left, next to the trees. Otherwise, park wherever you find an unmarked space.

Directions from airport to Half Moon Inn/Bay Club: Make right turn onto Harbor Drive when leaving the airport. (Small signs say: to Pt Loma.) Follow until you reach Rosecrans Blvd. (about 2 miles). Make a left onto Rosecrans; you are now heading south. Make left turn at Shelter Island Drive. Follow until it turns into a “roundabout”, next to “water.” Continue to bear right in the roundabout. Half Moon Inn is on your immediate right. Taking the right turn off the roundabout and driving 100 feet will take you to Bay Club, which is also on your right.

Directions from airport to Holiday Inn Bayside: When departing the airport, head to Point Loma (a right turn onto North Harbor Drive). Follow it, past Nimitz highway, crossing that intersection, and look for the hotel on your right, less than 2 miles. It has the Pt. Loma Café on site. When going from Holiday Inn to SSC-SD, follow the directions above (where it tells you to make a left onto Rosecrans—bolded lettering above), starting from Rosecrans Blvd, which is the second major cross street/intersection, after you have departed the Holiday Inn parking lot, having turned right onto North Harbor Drive.

  1. Visit/Security Request: You can then fax it to 619-553-6405. The most important information to remember to put on your visit request is:
  2. Put IRC Conference as purpose of visit. Put LorRaine Duffy, SSC-SD 2461/phone number is 553-9222 as your POC
  3. Note specific dates of visit (June 7-8, 2005)

c.  Place of birth, date of birth and citizenship

  1. This goes on company letterhead if you are not using military process.
  2. Yes, this a repeat of information above. THAT’s how important it is.
  1. Coffee, Breakfast and Meals: There is a very complete hot-grill/breakfast and lunch/salad bar cafeteria, within 25 feet of the conference center that is open to all attendees from 0700 until 1330; coffee/snacks continue to be available until 1500. We ask that you try to wait until after 1200 to purchase your own lunch, if you choose to do so, so as not to overwhelm the cafeteria staff. The cafeteria is a pay as you go option. Be careful when bringing food into the conference center. We are NOT providing any refreshments.
  1. Cell phones, PDAs, etc: Cell phones/PDAs are allowed in the conference center on June 7-8. Of course you will have to put cell phones on “vibrate only.” Entire conference will be held at the UNCLAS level. If discussions need to move to classified spaces, then please ask LorRaine Duffy, she will arrange a separate meeting room.
  2. Laptops: They will be allowed into the conference center. However, there will be NO network connections, so you can only work in stand-alone mode. We have two phone land lines in back of conference center for general use.
  1. General miscellaneous information: The Conference Center in Building 33 is on the roof (literally) and faces San Diego Bay, with a million(s) dollar views. (It used to be a “million”-dollar view, but current real estate prices raised it to multiple millions of dollars!). Wandering around the building is, of course, not permitted. If you have a yellow or white badge, you may proceed without escort. There will be no official social event during these meetings, as they are strongly discouraged by legal counsel. (And they have already interrogated me with regard to our plans). We look forward to your visiting us and discovering how unique and important this command is to Joint C4I.
  1. Types of Badges:
  2. Yellow badges: SECRET clearance and does not need escort, unless noted
  3. Can attend Classified SECRET meetings.
  4. White badges: US Citizen and does not need escort, unless noted.
  5. CanNOT attend the Classified meetings.
  6. Red badges: Foreign or uncleared (no visit request); must be escorted
