MINUTES OF MEETING – June 29, 2017

Meeting held at Los Amigos with President Traci Holmquist presiding.

In the Monday morning notice of meeting, members were asked if there were any ideas, issues or areas of concern that Chamber needs to be addressing. Traci read to responses as follows:

John Gille, Clay-Union Foundation, suggested we put what the Chamber does, supports, donates to, on the local information channel.

Matt Klein with Union County Electric wondered what the mission of the Chamber included and what the Chamber was doing to meet that mission.

Traci read Article III of Articles of Incorporation regarding the purpose of the Chamber:

To encourage, foster and stimulate commerce, trade, business, finance and professional interests; to eliminate and reform abuses in such areas; to obtain anddistribute reliable information as to the reputation and standing of business matters and merchants; to stimulate, encourage and promote cooperation and friendly exchange among business people; to adjust and settle business disputes between business members and others; to promote, advance and stimulate civic business,

commercial, industrial and agricultural interests and general welfare in the Elk Point area; to acquaint

and inform the public as to its objectives and to stimulate public opinion and reaction to those ends by providing information and other civic, educational, commercial, industrial, social and public features as will foster, encourage and stimulate these purposes.

It was suggested that a committee be formed to prepare a mission statement. The committee will consist of Traci Holmquist, Brian Wells, Susan Odson, Matt Klein and Beth Fennel. Janet Mount with Vermillion Federal Credit Union asked if the catch phrase used on our highway sign couldn’t be used as part of the mission statement.

Brian gave an update on the annual golf outing, which will be held in conjunction with the Summer Jam activities. A form was sent to all members to register teams on July 21st. Brian advised that pin prizes and door prizes will be needed. And as always, volunteers to help that day are welcomed!

Summer Jam plans are coming along. All sorts of activities are planned, including a movie Friday night at the park; breakfast Saturday morning at Prairie Estates from 7 to 11, and then activities throughout the day until 4 p.m. in the park, such as bean bags, sand volleyball, frog races, bouncy house, etc., ending with the street dance at 7:30 on Main Street, featuring Casey Muessigmann and his band. AND volunteers are also needed for these events.

Cara Kosinski informed the group that Jen Goetzinger has been named the new Administrator at Prairie Estates after the resignation of Cherilyn Hallaway, and Rose Chicoine is the new Director of Nursing.

Traci advised that Elk Point Community Health Clinic is offering free sports physicals to students wishing to partake in sports activities.

There were no objections to continue using proceeds from the Summer Jam activities for purchasing or updating park equipment.

Just a Reminder - Heritage Music Festival will be Saturday, July 15, at the EPJ School. This is a great event and fund raiser for the Masons. Air conditioning, lots of good food and great entertainment. Be sure to mark your calendars.
