Meeting called to order at 8:30 a.m. by Dr. Warren White.

Dr. Kaff moved to approve minutes fromMarch 22 meeting, seconded by Dr. Holen, motion passes.

Standing Committee Reports

  1. Academic Affairs– Dr. Burenheide

Proposed approval to changes to DED 420 description and title; motion passes.

Proposed changes to requirements in Modern Language program through requirement changes, motion passes.

  1. Faculty Affairs – No report
  2. Student Affairs – Dr. Judy Hughey

The student awards are being finalized and Pam will be notified this week.

  1. Diversity for Community–Dr. Hachiya

K-STATE will be hosting a diversity summit with Topeka Schools in addition to other nearby schools. This will happen July 14, more will be forthcoming regarding this.

Amanda Morales has accepted a position at University of Nebraska – thank you for all you have done.

E.Technology – Dr. Knackendoffel

POLL meeting will be next week and the topic will be migrating courses to Canvas.

Alternative textbook submissions were due last Friday and so they will be reviewed in the next couple weeks.

Other Reports

  1. Faculty Senate – Dr. Spears

Shared about who will be representing the College on the different committees.

Section C will be moving forward for approval in May. The major change is to the annual review process and TEVALS are required to be returned to faculty and department head.

Technology must be provided and accessible to students.

  1. Graduate Council – No report
  2. EGSO– No report
  3. Continuing Education– Rosemary Boggs

One of the instructional designer positions has been cut.

There is a renewed push on data analysis. Looking to turn requests for information into enrollments.

Looking at return on investment this summer.

Marketing dollars are increasing, but needing to document how the marketing is turning into enrollments.

  2. Center for Student and Professional Services– Dr. Griffin

Amanda Morales & Elizabeth Rowe will be leaving us and they will be significantly missed.

  1. Library– Laura Bonella

There are database and journal cuts. Interlibrary loan will still be possible, please use this.

David Vale is leaving and he will be missed.

New Business

Paul Maxfield, the editor of the Prairie Journal of Educational Research announced the first issue is published, and looking now for new submissions for the next installment.

Announcements

Thursday at 9:00am in Form Hall is the Chet Peters Lecture. There will be a live stream link for this talk too.

CACREP accreditation team arrives this Sunday for 3 days. Please know that and welcome them to K-State.

Dean’s Report

  • Open House was a great success.
  • Jacob Horton, one of our preservice teachers, suicide has devastated the campus.
  • Judy Hughey was named Counselor Educator of the Year, Congratulations!
  • Dr. Ken Hughey was honored with the Distinguished Service Award, Congratulations!
  • The MAT program has been a whirlwind. The current enrollment is at 29.
  • Shawnee Mission will be a DOT cohort.
  • Yesterday we saluted three teachers at MHS who were former military.
  • Jill Biden was at Fort Riley MS and Dean Mercer was able to represent us at the White House a couple weeks ago. We were held up as one of 4 pioneer institutions in regards to working with military families.
  • Next Thursday at 1:00 our newest documentary Dawn of Day will premier.
  • As a result of the 1st generation documentary, a narrative inquiry research project was undertaken and a subsequent book has been published. It is very powerful and well done.
  • Budget: There will likely be a 4-6% base cut. Information was shared with regard to a plan to meet these cuts as a College. As changes and/or more information arrive, we as a faculty will be notified.
  • Thank you for your patience with us as we renovate with the heating/air conditioning systemthis summer.
  • Dr. Deepak Subramony is now tenured and been promoted Associate Professor. Congratulations!
  • Paul Burden has been honored with the Professorial Performance Award. Congratulations!
  • There are 7 retirements this year (Virginia Mixer, Dan Yunk, Jonella Holmes, Melissa Hancock, Diane Hawk, Rosemary Talab, and Dean Holen). Thank you for your time and commitment to the College, you all will be missed.
