EAA CHAPTER 1270 MINUTES JUNE 11, 2011

Meeting called to order 9:00 am, Hangar 2, Houghton County Memorial Airport (CMX)

Members Present: Brigitta and Jerry Gadvillas (with tasty cookies), Alex Hirzel, Craig Kimmer, Fritz Wilson (with his donuts), Tom Curski, Bruce Woodry, Chris Woodry, George Kinnunen, Micheal and Murphy Mallow, Alicia Walby, Ben Holtz, Zachary Brogan, Doug McKenzie

President’s Report: Doug thanked all for their help at last month’s Young Eagles/Old Eagles

Vice President’s Report: Joe was absent

Treasurer’s Report: Our flights last month netted $104 in donations, $110 in new member dues. Bruce reports $1488 in our account

Old Business:

Young Eagles/Learn to Fly day: Craig reported we flew 11 Young Eagles, 5 young children, we had 24 Old Eagles.

Airport Improvement: Chris is looking for wood at jobsites for chocks. Craig says the sign board for Hangar 2 would cost about $20 for 4x4 feet. He will look into how much it would cost to put logos for EAA and CAP on the board…we could stencil in the organizations’ names

Kitfox: Tom reports 70 hours on the plane, Ed earned his solo endorsement

Avid, RV7A: Todd and Henry were absent

Zenair CH750: Doug reports progress has slowed for the summer, but the engine is ready to mount and the wing about ready to cover, all were invited to help build

Summer Youth: Tom reports the class needs 10 and only 4 have signed up, but the course was so well received before that MTU has committed to offering it. Young Eagles flights will be on Thursday, July 28, pilots will be needed

Airport Board Meeting: George said it was short and uneventful

Website: Alex was authorized to buy the Learn to Fly day clip from TV6 for $20 to put on the website

New Business:

Fly-Out to Oshkosh: Doug plans to fly down Friday morning, July 29, to return home Sunday evening. He suggested any other campers plan to arrive at about the same time so we can park in the same area.

Builder’s Corner: Bruce suggested we dedicate this section to builder resources to share information and skills. He discussed the “Green Aviation” grant briefly, we hope Dennis will attend a future meeting to inform us further.

Vendors’ Corner: Bruce suggested we invite vendors to meetings to present their services. A first request might be to painters, as there are now 2 planes to paint (the RV7A and the Zenair CH750). Two local names that were offered were Kevin Cadeau and Chris Crnkovich. We’ll try to make contact before the next meeting.

Flying Club: Petio was absent but he and Bruce have suggested a free local ground school with Petio’s donated King school (he even contacted King and was given the ok to use their CDs on a different computer). This would start a pathway to a license, attendees would be presented with local options for airplane use…Petio suggested buying a share of a plane as he did with the Warrior. Bruce would like 5-15 students to make this worthwhile, one of the local pilots would proctor the CD lessons, he suggested 3 hours one night of the week. He recommended we donate $250 as a chapter to help CAP buy the monitor for the conference room. All present authorized this unanimously. Bruce sent a sign-up sheet for lessons and already has 6 attendees!

Coffee: Mike Mallow offered to make a special blend of roasted coffee with our EAA logo as a fundraiser. Doug has a logo he had monogrammed onto a shirt 15 years ago, he’ll get a copy to Mike

The meeting adjourned at 10:30 am. Next meeting Saturday, July 9, 9:00 am Hangar 2
