Meeting and Program Highlight

The year started with a “Getting to Know you Theme. For the first activity, greeting cards were cut in half and members had to find the other member with the matching half and learn something new about the person to share with the group. The remaining meeting time was spent playing Bingo. Members paid $5 for each card to play Bingo. The money went to “Dollars for Scholars”. Philo Waters served as “caller” and Tom Greenwood kept track of the numbers. Prizes were donated by area businesses or members. We had seven game winners

In March, BARSEA members hosted members from Johnson-Somerveil County RSEA for our annual joint meeting. The theme for the meeting was Hats Off & Steppin’Up . Table decorations were hats and boot.

Officers did a Flash Mob activity with the following sayings:

HATS OFF TO our guests from Johnson-Somerveil County RSEA for STEPPIN UP to support TRTA at this 27th annual joint luncheon of our two locals. HATS OFF to our members who Stepped up and brought us together for the first time in 1994.

HATS OFF TO our State Offices for STEPPIN’ UP for retirees all over the state

HATS OFF TO Tim Lee (executive director and Bill Barnes (state legislature chairman) for STEPPIN’ UP and “lobbying successfully” with legislators to increase retirees annuity checks, to improve TRSCARE, and to protect and continue DEFINED BENEFITS.

In accordance with the theme, Pat Worrell did presentation with her hat collection.

Jack Teddlie, District XI Legislative Chairperson, spoke about issues they are dealing with in Austin. The primary issue is the cost of TRS-Care. He answered questions and emphasized the need to contact our state senators and represenators.
