Travel Arrangements for PU PSMD– 2017-2018

Plymouth University and local bus companies have been working together to provide Plymouth students with intersite transport between sites i.e. City Centre and Derriford/Royal William Yard and Devonport Dental Facility.

Only students who are involved in scheduled teaching (taught activities) at the John Bull building, Derriford Research Facility, Derriford Dental Education Facility, Devonport Dental Education Facility or Derriford Hospital will have access to the intersite free travel. Those with access will be able to use the buses by showing the driver your intersite bus logo University ID card, but please understand – no ID card, no travel.

Citybus–Travel is only available Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm

  • Services 42/42A/42B/42C. Numbers 42 and 42A are the most direct between the City Centre and Derriford Hospital and travel through Mutley Plain straight through to Derriford.
  • Number 34/34A –Royal Parade, Royal William Yard, Cumberland Road (Devonport Dental Clinic) plus onward to Derriford Hospital.

Stagecoach - Travel is only available Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm

  • Number 1 – every 30 minutes. City centre to Derriford. This service goes through Mutley.
  • Number 100/101 – service every 10 minutes. This service is from George/Milehouse park and ride and will also go via Derriford to the City Centre and reverse.

Please note that students will only be permitted to get on/off at these stops Royal Parade, Exeter Street viaduct, Charles Street, Saltash Road, North Hill, Mutley Plain, Mayflower Street, Saltash Road/Station Road, Cumberland Road (Dental School), Derriford Hospital, Runway Road, Marjon link road and Plymbridge Lane.

Students will not be permitted to travel from any of the park and ride sites, but can use the park and ride services as long as you get on at City centre/Runway Road/Derriford

Please do not abuse this service outside of normal business hours and do not try to gain travel on any other services than those listed above.

The bus services use existing commercial bus routes and the timetable should be viewed in conjunction with the route maps. Timetables that run the direct route between the two sites are available from Faculty offices, but the following links will give full information:

It may be worth checking the local operator websites for promotions/discounts as these can change.

Please do not try using buses outside of the direct routes City Centre to Derriford/Devonportas you will be charged (this includes travelling to placements along the route)

You will experience overcrowding on the buses at the start of term, this dies down after a couple of weeks. We are sure we do not have to remind you that this is a public service and you are representing the Faculty - Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry.
