The program offers pregnant women incentives to make and keep prenatal care appointments. Women must be low-income and enrolled in prenatal care to participate. March of Dimes funding will support a more vigorous evaluation process and greater community education and outreach. Program is targeting 315 African American and Latina women with this grant. / $21,082

Baltimore, MD 21201 / Centering Pregnancy and Stork’s Nest / This project proposes to implement the Centering Pregnancy model at two sites in Baltimore-MD General Hospital and the UMD Women’s Center-as part of a city-wide initiative to decrease the infant mortality rate in Baltimore. It includes a component to assist pregnant women in quitting smoking. Funding will also be used to enhance the hospital’s Stork’s Nest program located in Edmonson Village. Program is targeting 200 African American women with this grant.

Silver Spring, MD 20910 / Improving Pregnancy Outcomes through Revision of Labor Reduction Process / Holy Cross Hospital proposes to decrease elective inductions of low risk women of any gestational age with goals to promote natural onset of labor, decrease length of stay for mothers, decrease cesarean rate and decrease NICU admissions. Program is targeting 10,000 African American, Latina and Caucasian women with this grant. / $19,500
