Math Flash-Card Assignment
To help you master your multiplication math facts, your first math assignmentis to create your own set of multiplication flash-cards. Please take your time, follow the directions below, and read your “Flash-Card Rubric.”
Although you may turn the cards in on Monday, your flash-cards are due Tuesday, September 10th.
- You need to have every multiplication problem from 0-12 written on its own, individual index card. You do not need to duplicate/repeat any problems. For example; if you have the problem9X 12 you do not need to have 12 X 9, because the answers are the same.If you write out the cards in order, you can eliminate the repeat cards as you increase in tables. If you do this portion of the assignment correctly, you will end up with 91 flashcards.
- Your flash-cards need to be similar to the flash cards used in class. This meansthat you will have the multiplication problem written vertically on one side of the card, and on the other side you will have the problem with the answer.

- When you write up your flash-cards, use either a pen or a marker that does not show through the card. This means that you must not be able to see the answer to your problem through the card if you hold it up.
- You will now need to package your flash-cards together. You may choose to put them in a Zip-Lock bag, hold them together with a strong rubber band, punch a hole in each card and attach a ring through them, or put them in a small index card holder. Whatever you choose, your name must be on the packaging somewhere.
- See the reverse side for your scoring rubric.

Dear Parent or Guardian,
We truly believe that the road to success in your child’s education is the combined efforts of both teacher and parent. Therefore, we ask that whenever possible you assist your child in the studying of the basic math facts, (multiplication and division). Without a strong basic-math foundation, it can be very difficult for a student to move ahead in the 5th grade math curriculum. The multiplication facts were introduced in the third and fourth grades and should be mastered as we move forward in 5th. The division basic facts will be reviewed in the coming months.
