Math Coach Professional Responsibilities
Math Coaches will provide instructional support to schools as determined through analysis of student academic performance data, such as FSA, E.O.C. exams, and progress monitoring assessments. Schools with the highest need for support will receive the most direct contact with Math Coaches. Math Coaches will work collaboratively with administrators and teachers to develop a plan for student achievement.
Math Coach professional responsibilities and services will include, but may not be limited to, the following descriptive list of duties:
- Develop and deliver professional learning on Math Florida Standards, teaching and learning best practices, data-driven instruction and high impact resources for student learning.
- Model lessons in classrooms to assist teachers in learning MAFS and teaching and learning best practices.
- Teach lessons in classrooms in order to learn, hone, and revise instructional knowledge relating to MAFS, assessment, and teaching and learning.
- Participate in school or district professional learning communities purposed with improving teaching and learning best practices in instructional coaching and/or mathematics.
- Work with school-based teacher teams to assist with and/or lead the disaggregation of data to drive instruction and program development/modification.
- Assist school administrators in analyzing school data retrieved from progress monitoring, state assessments, district assessments, and/or teacher and school based assessments.
- Work individually with teachers to improve instructional best practices, including but not limited to: lesson plan design, data-driven planning, data-driven instruction, classroom instructional practices, math specific best practice teaching strategies, and guidance with professional learning needs.
- Assist schools with identifying low performing students and developing a plan for the acceleration of low performing student groups in mathematics.
- Assist schools with identifying the specific needs of subgroups and developing a plan for the acceleration of low performing subgroups in mathematics.
- Assist the district, schools, and teachers with developing appropriate assessments for progress monitoring student performance and driving instructional decisions.
As schools’ needs change, professional responsibilities may be added to or removed from the previous list. Math Coaches are ultimately responsible for providing a math instructional service to schools based on the needs of students, teachers, community, and other pertinent stakeholders.
