1 / 2
2 / 4
3 / 6
4 / 8
6 / 9

Tomatoes

Part A: Explain why the chart above does not show a proportional relationship. (1 point)

Part B: Explain how the graph can be used to determine whether the relationship between all of the quantities and costs are proportional. (1 point)

ANSWER KEY

1.  B 18 7.RP.A.2b

2.  C 8 7.RP.A.2b

3.  A 5.1 7.RP.A.2b

4.  11.05 7.RP.A.2a

5.  43 7.RP.A.2a

6.  Sample answer: 7.RP.A.2a

Part A – The chart does not show a proportional relationship because there is not a constant rate of change. For example, the unit price for the quantity of tomatoes is 50 cents so you would expect the cost for 6 tomatoes to be $12.00 not $9.00 shown on the chart.

Part B – The coordinate points should create a linear relationship to demonstrate the costs are proportional.
