Plane Trigonometry

This course covers trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, etc.), identities they satisfy, solutions of equations involving them, and solutions of triangles. The official course syllabus can be found online at

Textbook: Trigonometry, by McKeague and Turner, 5th Edition
Lectures: This is a three credit hour course. Section 002 meets in 109 Osmond at 3:35 p.m. on MWF. Section 003 meets in 105 Osmond at 4:40 p.m. on MWF.
Grading scheme: There are 450 points available in this course, divided as follows:
100 points / Midterm #1 / Monday, February 20, 6:30-7:45 p.m., 010 Sparks100 points / Midterm #2 / Thursday, March 30, 6:30-7:45 p.m., 010 Sparks
100 points / Quizzes / See below
150 points / Final Exam / Date, time, and location TBA
There will be a quiz at the start of class every Friday, except for the following dates:
January 13 / First week of classFebruary 17 / Review for first midterm
March 31 / Day after second midterm
April 28 / Last class, review for final exam
So you will receive 11 quiz grades, of which the lowest one will be dropped – there will be no make-up quizzes for any reason. There will be weekly homework assignments given as preparation for the quizzes - these are not to be turned in, and will not count towards your final grade.
The first midterm will cover chapters 1, 2, and 3 (except 2.2 and 2.5). The second midterm will cover chapters 4 and 5 (except 4.5). The final exam will cover everything from the first two exams, along with chapter 6 (except 6.4), chapter 7 (except 7.5 and 7.6), and sections 8.5 and 8.6.
