We are currently looking for our next great employee. Baffinland Iron Mines is seeking a knowledgeable Materials Handling Manager to join our team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective construction and operational readiness of the Baffinland Iron Mines Material Handling system and team are on budget, time and within technical scope.
Please note that this position is located at the Mary River Site. This is a permanent position requiring a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.
Qualifications
· Provide input and technical/operational into project engineering plans to ensure that operational scope is met
· Provide technical/operational oversight on Tote Road, crushing and port construction matters
· Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders including the Purchasing, Human Resources, and Financial groups to ensure that the business plan is profitable and deliverable.
· Manage a mix of processes, technology, funds, and people to balance 1-year result requirements with 1 to 5 year improvement milestones.
· Establish and execute appropriate maintenance of roadway, such as drainage, slopes, freshet management, grading, berm maintenance, bridge inspection so as to minimize wear on equipment and maximize cycle time.
· Ensure maximum productivity of materials handling equipment fleet.
· Ensure team's motivation and performance optimization, monitoring the development of activities, providing for adequate training and encouraging the fulfillment of goals.
· Ensure the occupational health and safety of local and outsourced teams through effective preventive and corrective actions.
· Ensure environment-related norms and procedures are complied with for the protection of the environment.
· Analyze trends in safety, environment, production and quality performance, as well as the consumption of resources, and implement actions to address negative variances, or to take advantage of opportunities as they arise.
· Monitor the performance of those doing the work, and take action to improve the capability of the team to meet future needs through the development or selection of personnel.
· Interface with key individuals internal and external to the company on various issues. This may include contractors, communities, government, aboriginal groups, etc.
Qualifications
· Candidate must possess a post secondary education in Business or Supply Chain Management. Candidates with a registered trade a strong work experience will also be considered.
· Must possess 15+ years of construction, mining, trucking experience with at least 5 years in a supervisory/management role.
· Arctic experience and bulk commodity transport experience would be beneficial.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Experience working with aboriginal people, working in remote mining camps and developing individuals whose initial knowledge/skills are low is beneficial.
