Materials Development Committee Charge

Guidance:

The Materials Development Committee (MDC)serves as theheart of The Learning Community. It is responsible for facilitating the generation and circulation of learning throughout the organization. If we are to be a true community of practice and to realize our vision of all people having positive control over the lives they have chosen for themselves, then we must have a reliable and effective means of developing and sharing the learning necessary to allow us as a community to continually grow, learn and expand our thinking. At the core of the committee’s efforts must be our values of contributing learning continuously and sharing it generously.

To this end, it is expected that the MDC will partner with mentor trainers for the purpose of developing, reviewing and organizing TLC for PCP materials. These materials should be made available in the Trainer Lounge on the website, sent out via listserves and/or made accessible to those attending trainer gatherings.

The Materials Development Committee is charged with:

  • Assuring the development and availability of best practice training material in the area of person centered planning and implementation.
  • Assuring that materialsremain current and accessible.
  • Facilitating the continued sharing of new learning within TLC for PCP network.

The purpose of this charge is to enable members of our network to better:

  • Teach others
  • Share learning
  • Develop new materials
  • Implement plans
  • Use person centered thinking skills
  • Lead and/or support organizations in becoming person centered

The core functions of the committee are to:

  • Developnew materials (review, test, edit)for use by The Learning Community
  • Review new materials that trainers have developed for potential distribution
  • Survey trainers about the need for new materials and efficacy of existing materials
  • Submitnew materials to The Learning Community board for approval for distribution
  • Submit approved materials for distribution at international trainer gatherings
  • Coordinate with gathering agenda committees and those distributing gathering materials to ensure the complete and timely availability of materials.
  • Utilize the listserves and work with the website committee to make available new materials and shared learning.

Process

  • Shared learning:
  • Includes experiential learning by community members that is been submitted for the purpose of benefiting others
  • Will be reviewed by a minimum of two committee members and submitted to the committee chairperson within three weeks with a recommendation on whether or not to post on TLC website.
  • The review of websites, online resources, plans and success stories that are shared will follow this same process.
  • An e-mail with feedback on the shared learning will be sent to the person submitting the material within one month of the committee receiving it.
  • Other shared learning such as that which is identified from external sources, including shareable electronic resources in a relevant topic area, web resources/links will follow this procedure and may be posted on the website or sent out via listserves as deemed appropriate.
  • New materials development projects:
  • Will includetrainer manuals, new curricula, new tools, etc.
  • The board of directors will approve TLC for PCP new materials projects.
  • The board of directors will give final approval for the release of all new materials, as well as determination of appropriate launch dates.
  • The committee chairperson will assign work to volunteering committee members or workgroups with project specific timeframes to be agreed upon by the person or group.
  • The committee chairperson will submit new materials to the board for approval.
  • The committee chairperson will update the board quarterly on progress of projects.

Criteria for review

Reviewers will assess all new materials and shared learning for:

  • Adherence to the shared values of TLC for PCP
  • Readability and accessibility
  • Appropriateness of subject matter and general usefulness to the larger learning community
