MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET

(RIGID POLYURETHANE FOAM SYSTEM)

Component A – Polymeric Diphenyl Methane Diisocyanate (MDI)

Major Ingredients: Polymeric Diphenyl Methane Diisocyanate (MDI)

Physical Properties

CAS Number : 9016-87-9

UN Number : 2489

Appearance : Dark brown clear liquid

Viscosity @ 25°C : 160 - 240 mPa.s

Specific Gravity @ 25°C : 1.21 + 0.01

Flash Point : > 200°C

Fire Point : Non flammable

Solubility in water : Reacts with water

Solubility (Others) : Soluble in most organic solvents

Handling Information

Storage conditions : Avoid extreme high/low temperature

Avoid humid conditions

Reactivity : Will react with active hydrogen containing compounds like water, alcohol, amine, alkali and acid

Polymerisation may occur at elevated temperatures in presence of tertiary amines and metallic compounds

Fire and explosion Hazards : Exposure to water and high temperatures should be avoided as reaction with water will lead to high exotherm and pressure that will cause bursting of drums.

Extinguishing media : Carbon dioxide, dry chemicals or appropriate foam. If water is used, abundant quantities will have to be used for flushing.

Fire fighting equipment : Use self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing

Combustion products : CO, CO2, NO2 and negligible HCN

First Aid measure

Avoid over exposure by inhalation and skin contact. In case of accident, the following procedure has to be adopted.

1.  Inhalation – Remove patient form exposure to fresh air and obtain medical attention

2.  Eye contact – Flush eyes immediately with running water for a minimum period of 15 minute. If irritation persists, obtain medical attention immediately

3.  Skin contact – Remove all the contaminated clothing immediately and wash the affected parts with plenty of water first and then with soap and water. If irritation persists, then provide medical attention immediately.
