MASTERS PROGRAMS COMMITTEE

MINUTES

March 12, 2007

Present: C. Speier, S. Mulally, G. Omura, V. Sambamurthy, R. Simonds, M. Moch, L. Maillette

R. Simonds called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m.

V. Sambamurthy moved to approve the February minutes, seconded by G. Omura and confirmed unanimously by the committee.

Action Items

a) PIM 852 course change

Per MPC’s suggestion at the February meeting, processing this as a course change instead of removing PIM 852 and creating a PIM 832. Content and title of PIM 852 changing from “Organizational Design” to “Negotiation”.

V. Sambamurthy moved to approve course change, seconded by M. Moch and confirmed unanimously by the committee.

b) PIM 802 course change (revised)

Moved to action item. Additional changes have been made since previous MPC meeting as a result of discussions between the WMBA Task Force and MGT department. Course change paperwork should be corrected to reflect that PIM 802 will remain fixed credit but change from 1.5 to 2 credits and be offered in Spring and/or Summer. (To offset this change, the variable credit Economics course will be offered at 1.5 credits instead of its usual 2 credits; the total credit requirement for the WMBA program will not change.)

M. Moch moved to approve course change with corrections (as stated above), seconded by G. Omura and confirmed unanimously by the committee.

Note: MPC would like to see a “big picture” plan for curriculum changes by WMBA Task Force representatives (C. Speier & L. Maillette). Add this to the agenda for April 9th.

New Business

None.

Old Business

a) PIM 801-803 credit change (revised)

Moved to action item above (PIM 802 course change).

Information Sharing and Updates

a) Shaw – FT MBA application update for rounds 1 & 2

March 5, 2007 admissions summary distributed. Admitted student events are critical to converting “admits” to “deposits” and faculty participation is greatly needed. W/EMBA admitted student events will occur in May/June (send email to faculty so they can get these on their calendar).

b) Moch – FT MBA Measurement Taskforce update

Received feedback on previous model draft and have made additional cuts. Next step is to consider measurability of these attributes/indicators and make another cut.

c) Maillette – WMBA Taskforce Update

No new updates.

d) Speier – MBA Program Update

The CMBA program with Masco (originally scheduled to begin March 9, 2007) has been postponed. An email was sent to faculty and staff announcing the postponement. C. Speier and Dean Duncan are working with Masco and hope to have a successful launch next year. Current EDP sessions with Masco will continue as planned.

Suggestion made by MPC to continue exploring other CMBA opportunities and also ways to continue utilizing/implementing the hybrid learning techniques that faculty developed in preparation for this CMBA program.

R. Simonds moved to adjourn, seconded by G. Omura. Meeting was adjourned at 11:07 a.m.

Respectfully submitted, Christina M. Swick, Recording Secretary.
