Mr. Marc Khatchadourian is currently working on a Master of Science in Emergency Management at North Dakota State University (NDSU) and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Marquette University in Milwaukee. As a part of his graduate studies at NDSU, he is serving as an intern at the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Mr. Khatchadourian is currently working on the Ready Campus Initiative deliverables and emergency planning at NDSU and is the emergency planner for the West Fargo School District in North Dakota. From May to August 2009, he worked for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) in Rockville, Maryland. Mr. Khatchadourian worked on the implementation of AHRQ’s emergency preparedness tools for States on such topics as resource management, alternate care facilities, and community healthcare call centers. He also researched and wrote an article discussing AHRQ’s practice of healthcare knowledge transfer, the practice of translating healthcare research knowledge into practical application and implementation.

Mr. Khatchadourian’s writing in graduate school has included business continuity, information management, mass fatality management, and emergency management theory. His graduate courses at NDSU have included: business continuity, hazard mitigation, qualitative methods, emergency management theory, and the sociology of death in disasters. He has worked on emergency and disaster plans for facilities in healthcare, higher education, K–12 education, and government.

Mr. Khatchadourian has worked in the Emergency Preparedness Department at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Milwaukee’s regional level one trauma center, since 2007, and is currently engaged in surge capacity planning, hazardous materials and multiple casualty incident planning, disaster medicine course development, and interstate coordination initiatives. He has been a licensed Emergency Medical Technician since 2005, and he currently works for the EMS Department in the Village of Elm Grove. He serves on the People and Paws K-9 Urban Search and Rescue Team in Milwaukee.

During Mr. Khatchadourian’s undergraduate career, he worked for the Waukesha County Office of Emergency Management for 2 years on emergency operations and managing various projects including community preparedness, hazardous materials planning, Urban Area Security Initiative grant deliverables, and emergency communications.

During this year’s conference, Mr. Khatchadourian is hoping to engage in discussions about internships and their contribution to emergency management.
