COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is for those students intending to teach or coach women's basketball. Focus is on technical aspects of skilled performance, selection of appropriate teaching and coaching strategies, evaluation of performance and organization of the basketball program. Emphasis will be placed on dealing with problems unique to the female participant.

COURSE GOALS:

  1. Prepare the student to organize and implement a basketball program.
  2. To evaluate personnel.
  3. To analyze players' skills and select teaching/coaching strategies.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Define the principle drills involved in a conditioning program.
  2. Define and explain the drills and sets that help make a good man-to-man or zone defense.
  3. Develop a good offense against the man-to-man or zone defense.
  4. Organize and develop a basketball program.
  5. Define the role of a coach as teacher, parent, friend, and disciplinarian.

B. Evaluating defensive performance

C. Evaluating personnel and selecting appropriate defenses

IV.Offensive Systems

A. Free-lance/patterned/zone offenses

B. Evaluating offensive performance

C. Evaluating personnel and selection of offenses

V.Special Situations

A. Jump balls/free throws/out-of-bounds

A. Meshing the offensive and defensive systems
