FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Maryland families of missing persons to gather November 19, 2006

Event coordinates vigil to mark a 21-year anniversary of missing relative

Maryland – November 6, 2006 – The Maryland Missing Persons Network is announcing to the media that on Sunday, November 19, 2006, a remembrance ceremony will be held for missing persons in the state of Maryland, past and present. We are asking for the media to announce this to the public so that family and friends of missing loved ones can attend the ceremony.

The event will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 9450 Cherry Hill Road, College Park, MD at 3:00 P.M. The event is open to the public. Family, friends, and agencies involved with unexplained disappearances will speak at the event. The event has been coordinated by the sisters of Leann Faulk, who disappeared from Hyattsville, Maryland, on November 16, 1985, and who has never been found.

Faulk was 21 years old when she was last seen on November 16, 1985. She went to see her boyfriend's aunt and uncle to obtain some money. An unknown man who was later identified as a male with the nickname of “JJ” accompanied her. When she was not heard from, family went to her residence. Her apartment contained all of her personal belongings including her purse. There was no evidence of forced entry. The Homicide Division took over the case on November 28, 1985 and has never turned up anything. Faulk has never been found, and very little press attention has ever been given to the case. Pictures and vital statistics of Faulk can be found at: A $5,500 reward is offered for information leading to the location and recovery of Leann’s remains.

The Maryland Missing Persons Network, is a volunteer organization that assists police in locating missing persons, generates public awareness of missing persons, and profiles Jane/John Does for public recognition. Its web site profiles over a hundred missing persons in the state of Maryland. The agency has helped law enforcement connect five unidentified homicide victims to missing persons, and helped bring closure to 7 missing person cases. The organization is the Maryland Chapter of an International missing person organization called The Doe Network.
