Thanksgiving Day

Scene I

(In the forest)

Mary: Oh, what a beautiful forest in autumn.

Billy: Yes, it’s really golden.

Mary: Let’s take some leaves. They are so wonderful.

Billy: Our parents will be so happy to have them.

Mary: Help me, please.

Billy: With pleasure, but hurry up. Our father and mother are waiting for us. We can’t be late.

(They are gathering some leaves and running home)

Scene II

(At home)

Mary: Mum, Dad, look at the leaves we have!

Mum: They are nice. It’s very good because today we have a great holiday.

Billy: Mmmm…..Everything looks so delicious!

Mary: What are we celebrating?

Dad: Today is a special day.

Mary: Why?

Dad: Because today we give thanks to God for being so good to us.

Mum: Today is Thanksgiving Day.

Billy: And what time is the feast?

Mum: As soon as everyone is here.

Dad: Our mum has prepared so much delicious food: cranberry souce, pumpkin pie, vegetables.

Mary: Everything looks so nice!

Scene III

Mary: Mum, dad, who are those people?

Dad: They are our friends.

Mary: But they are Indians.

Mum: Yes, sweety, they have been living in this land for many years before we came. They taught us to grow corn and other plants for food.

Dad: They also taught us how to hunt and fish and how to survive in this New World.

Squanto: Friends, God’s blessing you. We brought food for the feast. ( Gives a turkey)

Billy: This bird smells delicious! I know a poem about it.

Mom is in the kitchen,
And when I take a look,
I’m glad I’m not a turkey
That’s she's about to cook!

Mum: Welcome to our place.

Squanto: This is Massasoit and Humility. They are my friends.

Mum: Your friends are my friends.

Massasoit: We are glad to see you.

Humility: Squanto has told us a lot about your family.

Dad: Squanto, you are a real friend. You’re of great help to the pilgrims. You helped us to build warm houses, in which we lived during the first winter. Thank you, friend.

Humility: I see you’ve prepared nice dishes.

Mary: My favorite dish is smashed redskin potatoes.

Billy: My favorite food is apple pie.

Mary:

It’s Thanksgiving dinner;
Let’s not be late;
There’s lots of good food,
So fill up your plate.
With pie at the end,
It can’t be beat;
Hooray for Thanksgiving,
There’s so much to eat!

Mum: I suppose, it’s time to pray and to thank God for what we have.

Dad:

Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day
We bow our hearts to You and pray.
We give You thanks for all You've done
Especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son.

Mum:

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Billy:

For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

Mary:

Thank you, Lord, for each new day you give to me,
For earth and sky and sand and sea,
For rainbows after springtime showers,
Autumn leaves and summer flowers,
Winter snowscapes so serene,
Harvest fields of gold and green,
Beauty shining all around,
Lilac scent and robin sound,
Stars that twinkle high above
And all the people that I love.

Sguanto:

Thank you God for all that grows,
Thank you for the sky's rainbows,
Thank you for the stars that shine,
Thank you for these friends of mine,
Thank you for the moon and sun,
Thank you God for all you've done!

Humility:

Thank you for our festive mood;
Thank you, Lord, for this good food;
Thanks for blessings great and small;
Thank you, thank you for it all.

Altogether:

Bless us, O Lord,
For these, your gifts,
Which we are about to receive
From the bounty
of Christ Our Lord
Amen.
