Room Parent To Do List

  1. Complete or re-submit a criminal background check at (click on the ‘Register To Be A Volunteer’ link).
  1. Make an appointment with or send an email to your teacher to find out what their needs are regarding classroom help. Would they like help with cutting, pasting, sorting, etc. for class projects?
  1. Fill out your Room Parent Classroom Welcome Letter. Copy and distribute to the classroom in a Wednesday Folder.
  1. Ask your teacher for their completedGetting To Know Your Teacher form. Copy and distribute to the classroom in a Wednesday Folder.
  1. Set up an online classroom Wednesday Folder and Copy Parent rotation schedule on your Room Parent/Classroom webpage and provide the link to your teacher. Consider setting up a grade-level rotation so volunteers make the most out of their time at the school with less frequent trips. For Wednesday Folder stuffing, all information flyers will be waiting in a black crate just inside the classroombetween 1pm-2pm. The materials need to be sorted out and placed into each student folder. For Copy Parent, check with your teacher to see what the best time is.
  1. Mark your teacher’s birthdate on your calendar or on the classroom webpage so you don’t forget. If your teacher has a summer birthday, figure out a good alternative time to celebrate a “half-birthday” for them.
  1. Each classroom will have two celebrationsduring the school year. The grade level food list and celebration activities will be determined by the Grade Level Coordinator, so the GLC Room Parent will communicate the celebration details to the rest of the grade level room parents. The celebrations should be the same for each class in each grade level, so please make sure you bring up anything “extra” at your meeting.
  1. Winter Celebration& Valentine Celebration – K thru 5th grade
  2. Winter Celebration& End of the Year Celebration – 6th grade

The budget is $1.50 per child for a craft/activity per celebration. The grade-level room parent will first work with the GLC on celebration planning and then inform the volunteer coordinator for funding. Ask for volunteers to bring food items (specific to brand of the set menu), provide paper/plastic goods, and to help oversee the different “stations” such as food, activity, and craft during class celebrations. Doing an online sign up for the celebration needs will provide better visibility of the classroom needs and will send automatic reminders to the volunteers who have signed up. When the sign up list is ready, ask your teacher to forward a celebration letter or email w/the sign up link to the classroom parents.
