Marvin A. Pomerantz Leadership Award

Award Description

Marvin A. Pomerantz, (1930-2008) a self-made successful entrepreneur, left his legacy across Iowa. His dedication to education, the State, The University of Iowa and his family were commendable.

Mr. Pomerantz, well known to The University of Iowa community for his generosity to the University and UI Hospitals and Clinics, made an impact not only on a local, but a state and national level. Coming from a very modest background with eight siblings, he gave of his time by serving on countless boards, served as President of the State of Iowa Board of Regents, and spearheaded efforts to improve curriculum in the state K-12 school system.

Over the years, Mr. Pomerantz was recognized with a variety of impressive awards from organizations ranging from the Boy Scouts of America, and the Iowa Society to Prevent Blindness to being inducted into the Iowa Business Hall of Fame.

In honor of Marvin Pomerantz, and his dedication to The University of Iowa and its students, the PomerantzCareerCenter is introducing the Marvin A. Pomerantz Leadership Award for students graduating from the Career Leadership Academy.

Eligibility: To be eligible for this award the nominee must be a current Part 2 student of the Career Leadership Academy, or be currently enrolled in the Global Leadership Initiative in substitute of Part 2.

Criteria: The successful recipient of this award will have displayed vision, integrity, persistence/determination, and/or philanthropy. This could be demonstrated through any of the following:

  • Encompassing a unique vision that brings out the strengths and talents of others.
  • Displaying outstanding integrity, valuing diversity, motivating and inspiring others and exemplifying proper morality in both words and actions.
  • Unwavering persistence/determination in pursuit of one’s goals and ambitions
  • Making meaningful contributions to students, the University, and/or the community by prioritizingphilanthropic endeavors, service and civic engagement.

Using the sheets below, please provide a detailed explanation about why you are applying for, or nominating an individual, this leadership award. When thinking this award, remember that leadership and leaders can be found at level of an organization or group. The nominee is not required to currently be in a leadership position. In addition, please make sure you answer all questions related to the award and submit the supporting documents and picture.

1.) Answers to all of the following questions (no more than 500 words per question)

  3. University of Iowa and/or CLA Contributions:What contributions has this leader made to the Career Leadership Academy, the University of Iowa, or the broader community that deserves recognition for this award?
