Background
This Award was established in 2012 by Marlborough Museum in partnership with Marlborough District Council and The Marlborough Express.
The Award is made to recipients who have demonstrated a lifetime of excellence in cultural endeavor, and are a source of community inspiration.
The selection panel includes two Community Representatives. These representatives are joined by the Mayor of Marlborough, or their representative, Executive Director of the Marlborough Heritage Trust, Steve Austin, with The Chair of the Marlborough Heritage Trust, Dale Webb, who combine to form the five members of the selection panel.
Definitions
Living Cultural Treasures enrich the community with skills and knowledge in an extraordinary and significant way over a lifetime.
Living cultural heritage consists of knowledge, skills and values recognised as part of the inspiring cultural heritage of the community.
Recognition and reward for appointees
The principal reward for a Living Cultural Treasure is public recognition. To ensure this, the honours are conferred at a formal ceremony presided over by the Chair of the Marlborough Heritage Trust.
The Award will be linked with a program of activities both expressing and celebrating the cultural heritage for which a Marlborough Living Cultural Treasure has been appointed. An example would be Museum exhibitions and events.
Nominations from the Community
These are called for in mid-September 2017, and will be received by the end of 30 September 2017.
Nomination forms will be available at the Marlborough Express Office, Marlborough Museum, and Marlborough District Council.
We recognise that in any given year the names of many worthy people in our community are forwarded for careful consideration. This year we continue to welcome all nominations.
The Award will be presented in November 2017.
