Job Title:Marketing & Communications Assistant

Reports to:Head of Marketing & Communications

Contract:Temporary

Salary:£20,000 FTE (0.6FTE until July 2017)

Hours of work:Generally 37.5 hours per week, but occasional extra hours required (see below). The pattern of hours may vary according to operational needs but generally work will be carried out between the hours of 9:00-17:30.

Location:The CASE Europe office is located in London. Many events are London based but some conferences are held elsewhere in the UK and continental Europe. Overseas travel will be required.

Holiday:20 days per annum, plus statutory holidays. The CASE Europe office is closed between Christmas and New Year, which is not included in your annual holiday entitlement, and you receive time in lieu for any weekend travel.

Position Purpose

To support the Marketing and Communications team to create and deliver CASE Europe’s marketing and communications plans and activities to our members and non-members and to increase and improve engagement with fundraising, alumni relations, marketing and communications professionals among our membership within higher education institutions and schools.

CASE is the premier membership organisation for advancement professionals within education. We define the advancement professions as a community of practice which includes alumni relations, fundraising, marketing, communications and related fields in external relations.

CASE serves over 80,000 advancement professionals from its member institutions around the world, 8,000 of whom are based in Europe.

Our global HQ is in Washington DC. The CASE Europe office was opened in London in 1994, the Asia-Pacific office opened in Singapore in 2007 and more recently we have offices supporting LatinAmericaand Africa.

CASE Europe delivers 50 or so events each year, roughly 30 of which are educational and 20 of which are engagement. The membership team delivers all the engagement events, such as member meet-ups and round table discussions, and the education team delivers all the educational ones such as seminars, study tours and conferences.

All our events are delivered by our wonderfully talented and generous volunteers, supported by a small team of staff within CASE Europe. Our volunteers are motivated to share their knowledge for the furtherance of education and the development of the professional colleagues.

The largest CASE Europe education event is our annual conference. In 2015 we had our highest ever attendance at over 1,100 delegatesand in 2016 we received our highest ever overall evaluation feedback from delegates.

Person Specification

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work with the Marketing and Communication Manager updating the CASE Europe website, including: keeping event details up-to-date, copywriting for the web and liaison with the Educational Programmes Team (events and conferences) to ensure our products and services are well represented and easily accessible online.
  • To lead on the preparation, writing and distribution of CASE Europe email communications for our events, using an in-house email marketing system.
    To provide direct marketing assistance, database coordination, proof-reading, design of print materials, and event collateral as required.
  • To assist with developments in our social media channels, working with the Marketing and Communications Manager to raise our profile online
  • Undertake project-based research for conferences and events: Researching contacts and updating the database
  • Source and create content (text, Photoshop), scheduling, tracking engagement (evaluation reports)
  • Support the Marketing and Communications Manager working on print/ digital projects
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Head of Marketing and Communications

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Educated to degree level
  • Some experience in the marketing and/or communications sector, but a self-starting attitude and a demonstrated passion for the profession is a must!
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience using social media platforms to promote events including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proven copywriting ability.
  • Experience of using a CMS web administration system or similar.
  • Experience of using email marketing software (Informz! or similar)
  • High level of IT systems and good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Database Management.
  • Strong eye for detail and concern for accuracy.

Desirable Skills:

  • Some experience of communicating effectively with people of all levels and work well as part of a team.
  • Able to conduct business in two or more European languages;
  • Empathy with the culture of education, arts, culture and heritage.

Attitudes:

  • Demonstrable interest in education and for the mission of CASE;
  • Friendly but robust manner;
  • Ability to work as part of a small team and on own initiative;
  • Readiness to work unsocial hours on occasion (e.g. over weekends at conferences);
  • Confident personality, sensitive to other cultures and good sense of humour
