MARKET REPORT : SALE 08TH/09TH SEPTEMBER 2009

Western Teas

Select Best BOPs advanced Rs.30/- to Rs.40/-, other good invoices were Rs.20/- to Rs.30/- dearer, Below Best sorts appreciated Rs.30/- on average, plainer varieties were Rs.20/- to Rs.30/- dearer. Select Best BOPFs gained Rs.30/- to Rs.40/- on average, other good invoices along with the Below Best types advanced Rs.20/- to Rs.30/- and more as the sale progressed, plainer varieties advanced Rs.30/- to Rs.40/-. Medium BOPs advanced Rs.30/- and more, whilst the BOPFs gained Rs.30/- to Rs.40/- on average.

Nuwara Eliya Teas

BOPs maintained last levels, whilst BOPFs advanced Rs.15/- to Rs.20/-.

Uva Teas

Bright seasonal BOP/BOPFs continued to decline following quality and limited air mail bids. Coloury BOPs advanced Rs.30/- to Rs.40/-, whilst plainer types gained Rs.15/- to Rs.20/-. Coloury BOPFs appreciated Rs.30/- to Rs.40/-, others were Rs.20/- to Rs.30/- dearer.

CTC Teas

Low Grown PF1s advanced Rs.20/- to Rs.30/- and substantially more as the sale progressed. BP1s gained Rs.20/- to Rs.30/-. High & Medium PF1s advanced Rs.10/- to Rs.20/- on average. BP1s gained Rs.15/- to Rs.20/-.

Low Growns

Good demand. Select Best OP1s appreciated Rs.20/- to Rs.40/-, Best types too were dearer by Rs.15/- to Rs.20/-, Below Best types gained Rs.5/- to Rs.10/-, poor sorts were firm on last levels. Select Best BOP1s were irregular at the commencement of the sale, however advanced in prices by Rs.10/- to Rs.20/- as the sale progressed, the balance maintained last levels. Select Best OP/OPAs appreciated Rs.10/- on average, Best and Below Best types too gained Rs.10/- to Rs.15/-, poor types were irregularly dearer by Rs.5/- to Rs.10/-. Shotty Pekoe1s were irregularly lower by Rs.10/- to Rs.15/-, however, the Best and Below Best types were firm, poor types were irregularly dearer by Rs.5/- to Rs.10/-. Select Best Pekoes shed Rs.15/- to Rs.20/-, however Best and Below Best bold varieties advanced sharply by Rs.15/- to Rs.20/- and more at times, the flaky types too were firm to Rs.5/- to Rs.10/- dearer. Select Best and Best BOP.SP were firm, Below Best and poor types advanced Rs.5/- to Rs.10/-. Select Best BOPs advanced Rs.5/- to Rs.10/-, Best types were firm, Below Best and poorer sorts moved up Rs.10/- to Rs.15/-. Select Best and Best FBOPs were initially dearer by Rs.10/- to Rs.15/- but gained more as the sale progressed and were easily Rs.20/- to Rs.30/- dearer to last levels, Below Best and poorer types too gained Rs.20/- and at times more. Select Best and Best FBOPF1s moved up Rs.20/- to Rs.30/- and more at times towards the latter part of the sale, Below Best and poorer types too gained Rs.10/- to Rs.20/-. Select Best Tippy varieties met with good demand and advanced above last levels, Below Best and poorer types too gained Rs.20/- to Rs.30/- .

Off Grades

Select Best liquoring Fngs1s appreciated Rs.20/- to Rs.25/-, whilst the Best and the Below Best were dearer by Rs.20/- and more at times. Select Best BMs appreciated Rs.10/- to Rs.15/-, Best and poorer sorts too appreciated Rs.15/- . All Low Grown Fngs appreciated Rs.20/- and more at times. All BPs were dearer by Rs.20/-. Select Best BOP1As were dearer by Rs.15/- and more at times, whilst the Below Best and others too were dearer by Rs.10/-.

Dust

Strong demand. Select Best Dust1s gained Rs.20/- to Rs.30/-, whilst the balance appreciated Rs.50/- to Rs.60/-. Clean secondaries advanced Rs.15/- to Rs.20/-, whilst the Below Best types appreciated by Rs.25/- to Rs.30/-, poorer sorts were firm. Best Low Grown Dust/Dust1s advanced Rs.15/- to Rs.20/-, whilst the balance gained Rs.20/- to Rs.25/-.

WESTERNS

Wet weather conditions prevailed in the Western Sector. Watawala, Agrapatana, Bogawantalawa and all the other planting districts experienced dull conditions with scattered showers throughout the last week.

NUWARA ELIYA’S

Nuwara Eliya and Kandapola districts experienced dull and over cast conditions with light afternoon showers. Windy conditions were reported from both districts.

UVA’S

Uva’s experienced dry and bright conditions at the beginning of the week although dull and windy conditions were reported towards the end of the week.

LOW GROWNS

Galle district experienced bright mornings with afternoon showers at the beginning of the week, whilst Ratnapura and Deniyaya experienced dull conditions with scattered showers throughout the week.

CROPS

Crops from all elevations have shown a decline due to the inclement weather conditions.
