Marie Curie has a remarkable asset in its national network of county and Hospice Patrons. This group of individuals, referred to as our Leadership Network, are the most senior and distinguished volunteers within our organisation whose primary purpose is to assist the charity in raising more funds. Along with our Hospice Development Board members and Chairs of our Special Events Committees, our Patrons form a significant part of Marie Curie’s Leadership Network.
Our goal is to have at least one highly effective Patron within each of our key areas of service provision across the UK, achieving a FR target of £10k per annum, where they will also act as ambassadors promoting greater awareness of our work and our need for support. This role, which is critical to the continued implementation of Marie Curie’s overall strategy, ensures that our Patrons and overall Leadership Network are deployed as effectively as possible for the benefit of the charity and to maximise our fundraising capabilities
1. Fundraising
· Implement the charity-wide strategy for our Patron network with a focus on utilising their networks and influence to generate income.
· Establish and manage an annual income target as appropriate, manage budgets and resources accordingly.
· Oversee mechanisms for assessing the performance of the Patrons network on an annual basis against agreed targets.
· Work closely with Major Gifts, Regional and other fundraising teams to identify new Patrons in areas of need and to manage and oversee the recruitment process.
2. Operational
· Demonstrate exemplary team work; ‘one charity’, sharing experience and knowledge with others and establishing ways of utilising the Patron network across fundraising teams to support the generation of income from fundraising activities.
· Monitor, support, motivate and accredit Patrons and their work both internally and externally.
· Ensure that the induction process for each Patron is implemented to ensure they are fully briefed on the work of the charity and understand their role within the organisation.
· Build strong personal relationships with Patrons across the UK and become the Head Office/central point of contact for Patrons.
· Manage, support and communicate with Patrons appropriately working collaboratively with fundraising and services teams.
· Encourage Patrons to attend Patron meetings, local FR events and other relevant events.
· Celebrate Patron success by organising appropriate thanks/celebration activities.
· Ensure that Patron records on the CARE database are maintained and updated as appropriate and undertake any other administrative duties associated with managing the Patron network.
3. Marketing and communications
· Raise awareness both internally and externally of our Patron volunteers, their role and function.
· Be responsible for maintaining excellent communications with Patrons using a range of media including bulletins, teleconferencing and personal contact whether face to face, by phone or by email.
· Liaise with Community teams, PR & Marketing and the Volunteering team within Marie Curie to enhance Patron engagement.
· Co-ordinate and manage the outputs of an internal working group (key stakeholders: MG team, Regional team, Special Events and Corporate teams) to focus on best practice when working with members of our Leadership Network, manage issues and disseminate policy
4. Develop policy and procedure for managing Patrons
· Working with the Director of Community Involvement to ensure that our strategy for Patrons is in line with the charity’s wider volunteering strategy.

Marie Curie’s Major Gifts & Special Events team, Heads of Regional Fundraising and their teams, Corporate Fundraising team and the Chief Executive’s office.
