Introduction to Catholicism First Semester 2014-2015

A. Materials

Textbook: Credo: I Believe from the Faith and Life Series 2012 Reprint

Available in Classroom: The Catholic Youth Bible and The Catechism of the Catholic Church

Supplies: Binder with folder and spiral bound notebook, loose leaf paper, pens, and Marian Calendar/Planner

B. Course Requirements

1. Read the chapters in the textbook as assigned for homework

2. Develop vocabulary necessary to express understanding of each chapter

3. Complete directed reading for each chapter as assigned (usually in small groups)

4. Take quizzes on the vocabulary and the assigned readings in the textbook

5. Keep a neat and well-organized notebook with notes from the class lectures, presentations, and discussions and keep all handouts in a folder

6. Participate in class by taking notes, asking questions, answering questions, and listening to

others

7. Read and reflect on selected passages in the Bible as assigned

8. Take tests based on the textbook, presentations, and discussions. Tests will contain a variety of types of questions: True or False, Multiple Choice, Fill in the blank, Matching, List, Short Answer, and Essay.

9. Homework includes but is not limited to: vocabulary development, reading assignments, studying for quizzes and tests, writing paragraphs, reading and reflecting on Scripture

10. Final Examination at the end of the semester with approximately 125 objective questions

(There is usually 1-1 ½ hours set aside for the final exam. A Study Guide will be completed just prior to the final exam.)
