I.CALL TO ORDER / MINUTES
- The Regular Meeting of the Mar Lee School Board of Education is called
to order by David Ousley, President at7:00 PM,
with the following members present: Glenn Thompson, Dave Fountain, and Kent Van Sickle. Absent: Mike Hoffman.
Public comments on agenda items:
- None
- RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the Board of Education approves the minutes of the September 12th, 2017 meeting. (Attachment 1)

- STUDENT SERVICES
A.STUDENTS OF THE MONTH: The Mar Lee School Board of Education recognizes Cole Oland and Megan Neitzel as the students of the month for their outstanding display of RESPECT during the month of September.
- BOARD OF EDUCATION
A.RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the Board of Education approves the acceptance of the estimate from Gordon Martin Builder Inc. in the amount of $7547 tobe paid for with the Sinking Fund. (Attachment 2)

B.RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the Board of Education approves the increase in Adult menu prices from $2.25 to $2.45 for breakfast and from $3.60 to $3.65 for lunch to comply with a correction action from the Michigan Department of Education after the recent Food Service audit.(Attachment 3)

III.BUDGET & FINANCE
A.RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the Board of Education approves expenditures in the amount of $232,811.96 (Attachment 4).

IV.PERSONNEL
- NO ACTION ITEMS AT THIS TIME:
V.REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS:
A.Items from the public:
1. A recommendation from Jenny Leche was made that we consider the PTO’s request to plant a pumpkin patch in the back of the school to be supplement the annual pumpkin drop and increase student involvement.
2. Michelle VanSickle spoke about Mar Lee’s entry in Art Prize and feels that is gained a lot of exposure for our school and it was suggested that we put the entry on display at the school during conferences.
B. Board Discussion Items:
1. Member Thompson spoke of the beautification projects being spearheaded by Mrs. Finley at both ends of the school funded by a private donation from a community member.
2. Member Ousley spoke of the programs going on at he RMTC and encouraged visitors on Wednesday night from 4-8 to see the opportunities available to area students in the trade professions.
3.Member Ousley indicated that he will be attending the MSBC Conference for in the upcoming weeks.
C.Items from the Superintendent
1. Audit results will be presented at the November meeting due to a scheduling conflict with the auditor.
2. Results of Spring 2017 M-STEP testing were presented by Superintendent Holt. Mar Lee School again performed well in comparison to area schools and Mar Lee School had the highest 8th grade math and reading scores in the consortium.
3. MASA/Reading Symposium Conference feedback was given by Superintendent Holt.
4.The SET-SEG Hazard Report was completed on Monday with big gains show in the area of safety. The entries and exits to the annexes were recommended areas of improvement.
