Mapping Influences Collage Project Instructions

August 22-24, 2016

Students will create a collage that combines image and text, to document key influences in their lives. Artifacts brought from home will be combined with supplies provided in class for students to create this project. A map key will be created on the collage and explained in writing on a separate page or pages. This will be students’ first project grade in English 2 Honors.

The following elements are to be included on the collage:

  • (15 points)Three places that the student has visited. These could be countries, states, towns or places within towns, such as parks. These are to be represented visually. Options include, but are not limited to:
  • Using maps or creating them
  • Using photographs
  • Representing an element of a place, for instance drawing a swing to represent a park.
  • (15 points)Three places the student has “visited” in books. These can be real places or imagined. These are also to be represented visually.
  • (5 points)A line from a book. This is to be a piece of text layered over the images on the collage. Students can choose whether to type the text at home and bring it to class, or write it on.
  • (5 points)An element from a movie: a character, line or place. Students can choose whether to represent this element in image or text.
