Social Secretary- Manifesto 2013
Andrew Buckley
After consideration I would like to stand for the position of Social Secretary. I’m Andy Buckley and have been on the committee for the last three years filling the roles of ordinary member, Weekends Coordinator and Walks Coordinator leading many walks and attending many weekends.
I think we can build on the good work that has been done in the last twelve months and expand our socials for the year ahead by working closely with the walks and weekend coordinators to try and supplement the calendar with social walks which result with a social meal meet at the end of walks along with possible walks set a bit further afield as well as working with the weekend coordinator to organise social/walking weekends away in line of the Lake District weekend that was held this past June, to different areas of the North West.
The socials should be open to anyone, members or not but to encourage people to join the group I would also like to hold some of the socials as “members only”, whether these are stand-alone socials or socials tied into walks.
The biggest challenge for the year ahead would be the 10th Anniversary of the formation of MAD Walkers as we will want to celebrate the formation of the group by running a 10th Anniversary Ball.
I would like socials to included activities including pub/meal nights, walks with booked meals at the conclusion, outdoor activities (i.e kayaking, canoeing, organised orienteering weekends), indoor activities (i.e pool nights, ten pin bowling nights, cinema nights, go-karting nights, theatre nights) also I would like to formalise the impromptu Summer Sports Day that Alan Beeby and John Ireland organised earlier this year on the spur of the moment and was a great success.
I would like if elected, like to set up a Social sub-committee of about six people (including myself) from within the group to lead and assist members of the group to run socials that they would like to see with sub-committee meetings being held on a social night.
However, as I say every year none of this can be done without the help of yourselves, the general membership, firstly by electing me as the social secretary and then by coming up with the ideas of socials that you would like and assisting me in the running of the events.
All the best to you all
Andy Buckley
