Jazz Education and Archive Manager

Reports To:Director of MCG Jazz

SUMMARY:

Manages the Jazz Education and Jazz Archive initiatives and related relationships for MCG Jazz.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains existing relationships with Jazz Education program partners and develops new or expanded programs where appropriate.
  • Develops programing for elementary, middle and high-school outreach activities.
  • Plans and organizes logistics related to all jazz education activities.
  • Implements/facilitates educational activities as needed.
  • Coordinates and manages outside teaching artists and purchased service providers for educational activities.
  • Contributes to publications, curriculum development, and grant applications as required.
  • Implements the established policies and procedures of the Jazz Archive and attends all concert presentations to monitor data collection.
  • Performs day-to-day established archival practices.
  • Manages the digitizing and cataloguing team regarding the archive arrangement, asset descriptions and references, and preservation protocols.
  • Monitors, analyzes, evaluates, and communicates staffing, space, equipment and fiscal needs for the Jazz Education and Jazz Archive programs to Director and VP.
  • Assists the Director and VP with collection and research of original documents and reference materials according to the collection policy.
  • Represents MCG Jazz at relevant professional forums. Attends local, national, and international professional meetings when appropriate, establishes and maintains liaison with other institutions. Travels off-site and/or out of state when required.
  • Interacts with appropriate vendors.
  • Works with staff to assemble exhibits for the public areas of Manchester Bidwell Corporation as needed.
  • Others duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will supervise the activities of the archival team including volunteers, employees and hired services for Jazz Education activities both on and offsite.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Masters in Music or similar; a minimum of 4 years related professional work including experience coordinating and developing education programming; knowledge of Jazz history and demonstrated professional Jazz performance experience is required. Demonstrated expertise in educational technology; ability to work in Finale or Sibelius, and Pro Tools or equivalent digital audio program; strong working knowledge of all MS Office applications including prior experience with database maintenance and management is also required.
