Assessment Test:

The MBA cohort office is investigating an assessment tool that is to be used to determine if a student is prepared for taking BSTAT 5325. Therefore Dr. Eakin and Dr. Li will be requiring you to purchase the Statistics Foundations and complete the assessment test from by June 13th. Ten percent of your class grade in both classes will be based on the completion of this test. There are three modules that the students will have questions from. For my class, of the 10 points, 4 points will be for purchasing the product and 2 points for successfully completing each one of the three modules.

Class Participation:

Regular class attendance is generally an absolute necessity. If you must miss class for some reason, you are still responsible for the material you missed.

Participation will consist of attendence and discussion of the solutions to suggested exercises. Suggested exercises will be assigned the previous class period and discusssed the following class period. These problems are to reinforce the concepts covered in the class. Students are expected to work on thesuggested exerciseseven though they will not be collected. Occasional some of the suggested exerciseswill be worked in class and included in your grade.

Assignments:

Depending on the enrollment, approximately 4-5 students should form a team in the first class meeting and they will be collectively responsible for allassignments. Each assignment calls for efforts by all team members and culminates in a joint submission. Work on each assignment should be typewritten on 8 ½ x 11 white paper with one-inch margins at the top, the bottom, the left, and the right. Relevant computer printouts should be attached at the end. The assignment number, group number, and names of group members must be clearly indicated on the cover page. In addition, the assignment will be collected at the beginning of the class session and no late submission will be accepted.

It is important to note that a student’s grade on the assignment will be subject to peer and self evaluations at the end of the semester. Suppose, for example, that your group's assignment average score is 95% and you receive an average assessment of 95%. Then your overall homework score will be 95% x 95% = 90.25%. Please see page 5 for a sample partially completed evaluation form for group assignments.

Exams

Exams are closed book and closed notes. Each exam may consist of true/false, multiple-choice, and computational problems. Exams will cover class lectures, discussions, assigned readings, and other materials used in the course (i.e., handouts, overhead slides, assignments, in-class activities, case studies, quizzes, etc.). There will be no make-up exams except that prior arrangements have been made with the instructor or there is documented evidence of an emergency creating the absence. You will need a scantron, calculator and pencil for each exam. Both the exam booklet and the Scantron form must be turned in at the conclusion of the exam.Tests will not be returned, however students may review their test at the next class day. Cell phones and laptops are not allowed during exams.

The first twoexams are NOT cumulative. One single, two-sided study sheet (8 1/2 by 11 inches) will be allowed.

However, the final exam is cumulative based on the entire material. Two pages (letter size) study sheet will be allowed.

You may include anything on the study sheet. But it cannot be shared during the exam. If bad weather prevents a class from being held, then the schedule will be moved down a class day.

Absences based on Religious Beliefs:

A student who misses an examination, work assignment, or other Assignment due to the observance of a religious holy day will be given the opportunity to complete the work missed within 15 days following the due date of the assignment, test, or other Assignment missed. To be eligible for such a make-up, the student must notify me in writing of classes scheduled on dates he or she will be absent to observe a religious holy day. Notification must be made within the first 15 (fifteen) class days through either a written correspondence, personal delivered, acknowledged and dated by me or written correspondence sent certified mail, return receipt requested to me. Failure to follow the rules provided above within the time frames listed will result in the absence being considered unexcused. Refer to for further clarification.
