Making Communication Access a Reality

1 Day Workshop

WaterfordRegionalHospital, Wednesday 24th July, 2013

UniversityCollegeHospitalGalway, Wednesday 14th August, 2013

AOTI and the IASLT are pleased to announce these one day workshops; “CONNECT – Making Communication Access a Reality”.

What is the aim of the training?

When people have physical disabilities we may put in place physical changes such as ramps or wider doors to make it easier for them to access our services. When people have communication difficulties such as aphasia, they can also encounter many challenges accessing services. This can be a result of difficulties with the environment, the interactions they encounter or the way documents are produced. This course aims to improve knowledge of access issues and challenges faced by people with communication difficulties. It supports therapists to gain skills and confidence to allow them to improve key aspects of their practice in order to make the services they provide more accessible for people with communication difficulties.

Facilitators

The workshops will be delivered by Sarah Lee (AOTI CPD Officer) and Laura O’Brien (IASLT CPD Officer). Sarah and Laura attended a 2 day CONNECT Train the Trainer workshop and are now able to cascade this training out to other therapists.
