Making a 1/12 Scale Decoupage Butterfly Picture

Using this printed page you can make a decoupage butterfly picture

Tools

·  Small sharp scissors

·  Craft knife

·  Tweezers

·  Glue (PVA or similar)

·  3mm x 3mm strips of balsa

·  Piece of thin acetate, ideally those used for presentations

·  Length of 4mm wide veneer in finish of your choice

·  Acrylic paints

Instructions

1.  Print out this page using a high quality printer setting, onto normal printer paper.

2.  Cut around the border of one of the pairs of butterfly pictures, separating the two pictures as you do this.

3.  Using the second pair of pictures carefully cut out all of the butterflies, including the ones overlapping the edges of the picture

4.  Fold the cut out butterflies down their middles and put some PVA on the underneath of this fold.

5.  Stick the butterflies to their counterpart on the picture. Repeat till all butterflies are stuck. (for the sideways on butterflies fold on their bodies and stick in the same manner)

6.  Using the 3mm x 3mm balsa stick around the border of the butterfly picture, it is not necessary to mitre the edges as this will be covered.

7.  Cut a piece of acetate to fit over the top of the balsa frame so there is a 1mm gap around the edge and glue it down.

8.  Using the 4mm veneer strip make a frame, sticking it on top of the acetate. Mitre the corners, you will find it easier to do this using sharp scissors

9.  Using Acrylic paints, mix a brown to match your veneer and paint the edges of the balsa which is showing. Leave to dry.

10. Sit back and enjoy your finished Butterfly Decoupage Pictures
