A Prayer for the New Year
Dear God, our minds and hearts turn in two directions as we recall the many blessings of the past year and look ahead to anticipated blessings of the year just beginning. None of us can know what joy or sorrow will come into our lives, but we are grateful for the reassurance that you will be with us whatever situations we face.
Hear our thanks for the lasting joys of precious memories that keep the past a part of the present. Help us so to live day by day that we may build new memories to bless the future with happiness.
May this be a year in which our hearts are enlarged to embrace those who need assurance of your love, and may we move forward serenely through days of fellowship with one another and with you. AMEN.

Make This “Your” Year

There are so many hopes and dreams

and things that you can do,

And here is a special wish

that you will have them all come true.

So give yourself a special gift

now that the New Year’s here,

And make yourself a promise

this is going to be your year!

Have a wonderful 2018

Four Things God Wants You to Know:

1)You Need to Be Saved…Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3).  For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).  Every one of us shall give account of himself to God (Romans 14:12).  It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way (Isaiah 53:6).

2)You Cannot Save Yourself…Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us (Titus 3:5).  For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all (James 2:10).  There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12).  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me (John 14:6).

3)Jesus has Provided for Your Salvation…For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God (1 Peter 3:18).  Him [Jesus] who knew no sin God made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21, R.V.).  God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

4)You Can Be Saved Today…Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near (Isaiah 55:6).  Behold now is the … time, now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).  Choose you this day whom ye will serve (Joshua 24:15).  He that hearethMy word and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life. (John 5:24).

Your Part

  • Believe Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved (Acts 16:31).
  • Repent (Turn from your Sins.) Except ye repent ye shall … perish (Luke 13:3).
  • Confess Your Sin to Jesus  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (I Timothy 2:5).
  • Confess Jesus Before Others  If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved (Romans 10:9).
  • Trust Him to keep you  He is able to keep you from falling (Jude 24).

Directions from God’s Guidebook

In your relations with one another, clothe yourselves with humility, because God is stern with the arrogant but to the humble He shows kindness.

Bow humbly under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may lift you high. Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you.

Stay sober and alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, solid in your faith, realizing that the brotherhood of believers is undergoing the same sufferings through the world.

The God of all grace, who called you to His everlasting glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish those who have suffered a little while. Dominion be His throughout the ages. AMEN!

Cold casualty: What to know about hypothermia

The blood vessels are constricting in order to prevent hypothermia, a dangerous condition that occurs when your body loses more heat than it produces, causing the body's core temperature to drop below 95 degrees Fahrenheit. "The most worrisome health effect from cold exposure is hypothermia, which can cause damage to vital organs, including the heart, nervous system and kidneys. In extreme cases, death can occur. This often is a result of abnormal cardiac rhythms," said Dr. JeahanColletti, an emergency medicine specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Those most at risk for hypothermia -- and any cold-related health hazard -- tend to be older adults, Salamon said. "If people have a neighbor who is an older person, when there's weather that's really cold, they should check up on them. When people get really, really cold, they can get very confused and not even know enough to call for help," she said.

Why Worship?

Read Psalm 27

Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD! – Psalm 27:14

Why bother going to church? Some would tell us that it’s better to sleep late on Sunday, eat a leisurely breakfast, and lounge around talking with the family. And then maybe have lunch with friends or enjoy a picnic and games with the children. “Make it a day that’s different and even restful,” some would say, “but don’t waste time by going to church on Sunday!”

Worship? Who needs worship anyway? We all do! We need worship because we are unique creatures made in the image of God. We are made for God, so we can’t fulfill our purpose unless we develop a right relationship with Him. And worship helps us to do that when we focus on the Lord.

As we join with other worshipers in church, our hearts are lifted out of this temporal world into God’s eternal world. According to William Temple, in worship the conscience is quickened by the holiness of God, the mind is fed by the truth of God, the imagination is purged by the beauty of God, the heart is opened to the love of God, and the will is devoted to the purpose of God. And thus we are helped onward in our goal of becoming more like God.

Let’s decide now that on Sunday we will be in church with a heart prepared to worship.

Our week’s not complete till we make it our goal

To honor the Lord’s Day and nourish our soul;

The help that we need for the tasks that we face

Will come as we worship and draw on God’s grace.

WHAT YOU WORSHIP DETERMINES WHAT YOU BECOME
