Doha, Qatar – Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall, Doha's favorite family shopping destination, organized a fire drill to increase awareness of safety and security measures among its tenants, and shoppers at their premises on April 19, 2012.

The drill provided strategic experience, knowledge and training aimed to empower them to calmly handle circumstances which might arise in case of a fire or other crisis.
This exercise was part of Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall's continuous efforts to guarantee a safe shopping environment for tenants and shoppers and ensure that its objectives are in line with Qatar’s safety standards and security procedures. During the process, fire attentiveness, building fire safety plan, fire warden responsibilities, general evacuation procedure plans and after any emergency procedures were reviewed.

The drill was organized and carried out by the operations department of the mall management and included the participation of the Civil Defense Department and Hamad Medical Corporation.

'It’s reassuring to know that Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall is always prepared for any emergency situation; fire safety has always been top priority for our Management,’ said Mr. Zuhair Taha Rostom, Asst. Operations Manager, Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall.

The main aim of our drill was to enhance the mall's security operation by undergoing a practical, real-life situation drill that was performed in a very professional way without the need for a real casualty,' Mr. Rostom further added

The 'make-believe' fire drill exercise where all concerned were pre-informed, lasted 30 minutes and involved a number of real life scenarios and a more detailed demonstration which included ambulances and role play casualties in order to simulate possible emergency situations. As part of the drill, tenants and shoppers were guided by security representatives on emergency escape routes and fire exits that can be utilized in case of a real emergency situation through which they would be guided safely and assemble in designated areas around the Hyatt Plaza Mall parking lot.

A team of firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department and medical officers evacuated pretend victims with uppermost efficiency. The evacuation drill involved the participation of other agencies and over 1000 tenants and visitors.

'It went very well, thanks to the Civil Defense Department, Hamad Medical Corporation, the casualty actor as well as our customers, tenants and staff for their kind cooperation and participation in our exercise,' said Mr. Feroz Moideen, General Manager, Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall.
