Objectives
For this assignment you will write a 750+ word strong response: rhetorical analysis essay. The essay will analyze the rhetoric used within a published web article from a credible publication. The rhetorical analysis essay is a form of evaluation essay that analyzes the overall effect of a source’s rhetoric as well as how the source uses ethos, pathos, and logos. The essay will follow the guidelines for a strong response rhetorical analysis essay as described in the Allyn &Bacon textbook in pages 104-122. You may select the web article of your choice, but any source used must be approved by the instructor.
Rhetorical Context
You are writing this essay with the intended audience of well-educated members of the university community. This audience can be considered formal, so your essay should utilize formal language and be as professional as possible. Your purpose is to analyze the rhetorical strategies and overall success of your text of choice. This essay should fall into the genre of a strong response rhetorical analysis and will be closed form and thesis driven.
Requirements
The following criteria must be met in order to receive full credit for your work. Failure to comply with any of these requirements will penalize your grade:

Closed Form Prose Conventions:
The essay should display appropriate conventions for a closed form prose essay. It should have a thesis supported with reasons, forecasting and fulfillment, supporting evidence, and a conclusion. The thesis is of central importance here and should be clear and carefully worded. / 25%
Rhetorical Analysis:
The essay should focus on analyzing the rhetorical strategies of whatever text is being examined. It should cover such topics as rhetorical context, use of ethos, pathos, and logos, angle of vision, and style for rhetorical effect and utilize specific evidence from the text in your analysis. / 25%
Mechanics:
The final draft of the paper should show sufficient editing and revision. It should also utilize college-level grammar and correctly follow MLA formatting conventions. The essay should have a properly formatted Works Cited page and utilize appropriate citations. / 25%
