Between January 1 and December 31, 58 newly diagnosed HIV cases were reported to the Maine CDC. Prevalence data provided in the table below show that men who have sex with other men are disproportionately affected by HIV in Maine. However new diagnoses in 2014 show heterosexual contact with no at-risk partner disclosed as the primary mode of transmission. While most diagnoses were seen in the 30-39 year age range, new diagnoses were reported in people 12-67 years of age. Of the 58 newly reported HIV cases, seven of those also received an AIDS diagnosis within one month of testing positive for HIV. There were a total of 28 AIDS cases diagnosed in Maine in 2014. Current records indicate that 1,810 of Maine’s residents are infected with HIV. The table below presents demographic data for newly diagnosed and prevalent HIV cases in Maine.
