Main Character Scrapbook Book Report (30pts) due Thursday, April 27th

Create a Main Character Scrapbook for the fictional Newbery award-winning novel that you read (100 pgs. or more). Budget your time wisely, and be sure to follow each checkmark on the list.

ü  Please use scrapbook or thick construction paper and bind the scrapbook with staples or a report holder (at least 8 ½ x 11). Attach all items to the scrapbook.

ü  It should be written from the perspective that you are the main character from your novel. Everything should be written in first person.

ü  All words should be typed.

ü  Decorate each page/cover with stickers, meaningful pictures, borders, etc.

The scrapbook should include the following items:

·  Cover: (2pts)

ü  It should include a colorful picture of a person who represents the main character of the book (not hand drawn).

ü  It should also state the main character’s name and the word “scrapbook” (i.e. Jeffrey Magee’s Scrapbook).

ü  Your heading should be centered at the bottom of the front cover (name/period/date).

ü  Also include the title/author of your novel on the cover.

·  Page 1: (8 pts)

ü  Write a personal letter (summary) from the main character to another character in the book (first person). The letter should include the main plot elements of the story including a description/explanation of the theme. Use indented paragraphs to separate your ideas. Don’t forget to include the title of the novel (underlined or italicized) and the author’s name (at least 3 paragraphs).

ü  Use and underline the eight terms as they appear in your letter (characters, setting, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution and theme). Keep them in order.

ü  The letter should be at least 1 ½ - 2 pages, 12pt font, Times New Roman/Arial, Double spaced.

ü  It should contain a salutation and closing and be placed in an envelope (complete with two addresses, a colorful hand drawn stamp and the character names). It should be glued to the first page in your scrapbook, but please don’t seal the envelope.

·  Pages 2, 3, 4 and 5: “Four Character Pictures” (one per page) (2 pts/page = 8pts)

ü  Use colorful magazine clippings, internet pictures, etc to represent four characters in the story (one must be the main character). If you don’t have a color printer, please color the pictures with colored pencil. They should be pictures of people or animals.

ü  Each picture should include a caption (at least three sentences) describing, from the main character’s point of view, who the character is, and how he or she is important to the story.

ü  Label each page with the name of the character.

·  Pages 6, 7, 8, and 9: “Four Mementos” (one per page) (3pts/page = 12pts)

ü  These should be 3D objects that were meaningful in the story, which would have been important to the main character (i.e. a tool or utensil that was important in the story, or a piece of cloth to represent a relevant item of clothing, etc.).

ü  Each memento should have a caption, written from the main character’s point of view, (at least three sentences) stating what it represents in the main character’s life/why it was important in the story.

ü  Label each page with the name of the memento (item).

Important Note: Please do not include anything valuable, liquid or perishable inside of the scrapbook!
