Course Expectations

Course Overview:

In Spanish III, students continue to develop their communicative competence by interacting orally and in writing with other Spanish speakers, understanding oral and written messages in Spanish, and making oral and written presentations in Spanish. Students continue to build their vocabulary and learn more about grammatical structures to move from more concrete to abstract concepts in a variety of time frames. Emphasis is placed on the use of Spanish in the classroom as students develop the ability to discuss topics related to historical and contemporary events and issues.

Objectives:

●  To use the language effectively in everyday interactions

●  To develop accurate writing and speaking skills

●  To develop accurate reading and listening comprehension

●  To explore additional aspects of the culture of different Spanish speaking countries

Materials:

●  3-ring binder

●  Loose leaf paper

●  Dividers (for organization)

●  Pencils and/or Pens

●  For Journal: 1-Two Pocket Folder with prong fasteners

●  Suggested – Spanish/English dictionary and flash drive for projects

●  If possible: Tissues, markers/colored pencils, colored paper (extra credit☺)

Grading System:

●  Tests and Projects 30%

●  Quizzes 25%

●  Classwork/HW 20%

●  Speaking/Participation/Collaboration 15%

●  Journals/Writing/Reflection 10%

Grading Scale:

94-100 A 70-76 D

87-93 B 0-69 F

77-86 C

Class Rules:

●  Be on time and prepared. In your seat and ready to start with all your materials.

●  Follow directions and pay attention. Listen carefully and do as asked.

●  Be respectful. Show respect to everyone, their ideas and property. This includes no profanity, have enough respect to control your speech.

●  Be willing to participate and learn. To learn another language you need to be actively engaged in the activities. Participation is essential and required. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake.

●  Follow the Magna Vista High School student handbook and code of conduct.

●  Use technology appropriately. During any testing in the classroom phones will be collected.

●  Use Spanish! Use the language as often as you can.

●  Water is the only food or drink allowed in class.

●  Do not talk during instruction or announcements.

●  Use your time wisely!

Late Work:

Late work will only be accepted one day late with points deducted.

Tardies:

It is essential that you be in class on time. Consult the MVHS Student Handbook regarding tardies. A third unexcused tardy requires parent notification and a fourth tardy a referral and Internal Suspension. DO NOT BE LATE! You should be in your seat and be ready to work in your journal.

Absences:

In order to be successful in learning a new language it is crucial that you be in class every day. If you have been absent it is your responsibility to make up any missed work. You will have the same amount of days to make up the work as you have missed. Only excused or verified absences will be allowed to receive credit for missed grades.

Tutoring:

Tutoring is available by appointment. I am happy to stay after school, just let me know. ☺

Citizenship:

Every six weeks you will receive a citizenship grade as part as your participation grade. You may lose points through out the grading period for unacceptable behaviors. You may lose points for the following:

●  Not having materials

●  Having food or drinks in class

●  Not participating

●  Being disrespectful

●  Sleeping

●  Excessive/Disruptive talking
